Need A Suggestion For A Company Logo

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I want to have a logo for my company. We are a provider of strategic HR solutions (topics such as strategic management, organizational development, staffing and recruiting, training and developing, compensation, performance management). Our competitive advantage is that instead offering a "one size fits all approach" or "five course or premium services", we prioritize, customize, and implement the 20% of hr solutions that will have the most impact now (in terms of value or customer perception) on the specific organization. Many of our clients appreciate this differentiation because they have limited resources and are just looking to implement the critical (top 20%) now.

The name of my company is HR Confidential. What I have seen in similarly named companies is that the "HR" is printed as overlapping lettering or with offsetting colors to stand out and the remaining part of the name having some abstract image or shape (circle for head) of a person or people part of or near the word. Any specific suggestions would be appreciated.

here is a quick and very specific suggestion. Your logo is your brand. What ever you select will be around for a long time. I suggest spending a little money with a graphic designer. I would ask that they make one like you suggest and then also do a couple based on their own ideas...
Here are some pitfalls of doing your own, it looks good on paper but can not be easily printed (letter head, cards, golf shirts etc), it looks good in color but not in black and white, and a whole bunch of other pitfalls.
    Good luck to you...

Frank is exactly right. You need a professional graphic designer, and you have some real challenges for that individual when you find him/her.

The most important issue that you (and the designer) will have to address is that your company name is at odds with your positioning. What does "HR Confidential" have to do with the kind of prioritization and customization that you claim will set you apart from your "one size fits all" competitors.

You want your logo to communicate your uniqueness, and the most important benefit that your clients will appreciate when they hire you. What a confusing mess it will be if the designer is able to communicate that, but then has "HR Confidential" gunking up the communication.

There's an old adage in advertising: "The pictures need to match the words." You're setting yourself (and the designer) up for failure when you have a company name that is so different from your positioning.

And trying to do this without a professional designer is almost certainly going to result in a logo disaster.
