Name/tag For Online Travel Marketing Firm

Posted by Frank on 500 Points
Hi there,
We're merging an email b2b travel content distribution company (Travel Information Network) with my online marketing company www.orlando-associates.com.
I need a new name that catches the attention of travel agents and larger tour operators/industry suppliers.
Simple, short, clever but most importantly, implying that its all done on their behalf.
I like one of my colleagues company name: VoX (voice of experience) any thoughts?

    Hi Frank,

If you want to get a name that attracts attention, the first thing you *don't* want to do is to use any nouns which are in the field of what you do, or generically how you think you do it. Bad Examples:

    Quality Travel
    World Travel
    Your Travel Store

These kind of things are used over and over, and the words themselves blend you into obscurity. Just from an SEO standpoint ... this is a nightmare.

I recently did a name change of my own, and asked about 20 friends to lend a hand. In fact, what I got was TOO much help. I actually sent a list around of about 20 names, sectioned into my favorites, my second favorites, and wild names which might work. I was surprised at the responses, because most of the people ignored the whole list and just started throwing out stuff. I was surprised again, because the 7 people who did what I asked marked very similar boxes. Those made it to my final. My point? Don't get a lot of input, and start looking at names which really resonate with you.

The next hurdle you are going to encounter is trying to get a name which also has an available url!! This is a pain, trust me. But you really should make sure your name is in your url somehow. Again, another reason not to have a normal noun in your name.

I like skoobie's idea of the Orlando link ... since you will be a world wide company, many of the names you will think of will not be generic outside of Orlando.

That said, I will throw some ideas to you, just to get your juices moving, not necessarily to choose from:

Tinman Travel (from Travel Information Network (TIN) - not exactly disney though, unless you count the Muppets version)
Clarity Travel (gives a bit of customer benefit, plus the URL is open)
Ortin Personal Travel (a name which combines your original companies [orlando + TIN] plus a customer benefit - Ortin is not a heavily used word, I am sure, the Personal part adds some customer benefit)

In the end, choose a name which you will say confidently. In fact, practise saying the name before you choose it ... if it does not roll off your tongue fluidly and confidently by the 5th time, don't use it. The name must resonate with you (Resonance Travel?) to be effective.

    Cheers!

    name:

    or
    IntelAgent Travel
    or

    tag: Book Fast. Book Smart.

OK, lots of help, thanks everyone, its very much appreciated!
Skoobie99: Mant thanks, the Orlando tie in may work>
Frank: I agree, part of the message is "the great equalizer"
rbauman, vic, smile, csamuel: Thanks for the help but too mainstream.
Made: great advice, tks for taking the time.
Powerwriter, Mick, nmuqbel and euge: I like agileagent the best as I think the others miss the mark on the target audience - the travel agent.
So what do I do now...Do I split the 500 points between all of you since I wont be u8sing any of the names?
    best
