I setup a forum on my website that sells wedding bows. I optimized the forum to use url rewrite so it's SEO friendly. I want to know if anyone has used a forum to promote their website and generate traffic. What are the best methods to promote a forum?

We just started a forum area in my web site and you need to draw their attention to the forum button asking for members or customers to check out the "NEW FORUMS" area and ask for suggestions or comments on some of your products or post where you've been that way you'll get the customers whom you've just served to want to check out just to see if they are listed. If your selling bows then remember your a part of someone's "BIG DAY" and they will like the xtra special attention they get then they will tell all their friends what you do better than the other bow companies. We even now allow pictures posted and as site administrator I can ad to or delete and post my own topics whereas in the web page area you have to go throw a lot of mumbo jumbo just to change an ad... you don't want just a onetime customer you want a new friend... good luck

Are people realistically going to take the time to discuss wedding bows? I don't mean to be negative, but the strategy needs to fit the product, and unless I'm missing something here (in the US), wedding bows are not something I can imagine discussing in a forum. The bride has other things on her mind and it's not a big enough deal to the guests to take the time and to supply personal information. I would think speed and creativity would be selling points.

The forum might be an interesting way to get folks talking about bows. Are you thinking about a 'designer's corner'? Maybe an area where future brides can discuss Church decorating (and how to use your bows). It is a very niche market, with a limited window of interest (brides only care about pew bows befre or just before the wedding, and rarely after). But then again, why not use the forum to find new ways of using bows in other events, like baby christening, funerals, Easter, Christmas, etc, etc, etc. Use the forum to foster ideas, or test market new designs and ideas. The feedback is incredible, just like it is here in MP.

Say, linking your forum to other bridal forums may not be a bad strategy. This software has a built in linking strategy system: might help you.

It may also help you fnd all the bridal related sites you could be linking to.

ExchangeSynergism.com list really hits the spot, what I will add is:

Natural Search - get that sorted
Sticky Posts - include your own posts that help natural optimisation (drop some good keyword in).
Networking is good, don't be affriad to appear on other 'related' forums, keep an eye on topics and WHERE APPLICABLE ONLY promote your forum.

    Good Luck
