If You Heard It, What Would You Think ?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I am going to approach this submission in an unusual way. Instead of asking you for names or ideas for creating names, I am going to provide you a name and would like you to tell me what you think of, without revieling what the product is. If you guess the right answer (or the closest of the submissions) you get the award.
My hope is to determine whether or not the name fits the objectives of the organizations.

REACH IN (dot com)

I think it's a porn shop with a grab-bag at the check-out counter. You simply reach in and grab a premium item.

C'mon, gpick. That name is so vague that there is no way anyone could guess what it is unless they get very lucky. You could have made it "reach out" and gotten exactly the same responses -- except maybe for my porn shop guess! ;-)

From the name i would think its a Self Help & Personal development focussed website. It cd also be a virtual community facing similar issues.

    Hello, Gary,

Given your background in high tech data communications & services (according to your profile), I'm going to guess that "Reach In" is a convolution of AT&T's old "Reach Out and Touch Someone" long-distance phone service slogan. With "Reach In," the emphasis is shifted away from telephones and toward the Web while also hinting that, thanks to Internet technology, there really is no "long distance" anymore.

Your phrase could also offer a double entendre. I'm thinking of a newbie who "takes the plunge" or otherwise "dives" into technological waters. In this case, in order to connect with others, the newbie is "reaching in" to share data in a whole new way.

    Ow, this hurts my brain...

    gpick,

Reach In? Getting highschool date flashbacks....just joking :P

The name is so vague and with no counter response it is hard to make an actual guess as to what the product is.

A statement like reach in gives me the idea of getting involved somehow. Hopefully this is what you had in mind.

For me, the only thing which comes to mind is a mental image of a hand reaching into a bag or purse.

Frank Hurtte guessed what I was thinking. A networking site.

When I think of reach I think of two things #1 the old AT&T comercial "reach out and touch someone" (but if mgoodman is correct that could be taken way out of context :) ) and #2 i think of the Reach toothbrush. Since I dont think it has anything to do with #2 then I say what ever it is you are connecting/networking with others.

I'm very surprised that you expected anyone to figure out what Reach In is all about. I still don't get the connection to a social networking site.

Did you do any market research among your target audience with this one, or did you just throw darts at all the names you could think of?
