Name For Weekly Publication

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
Brainstorming name ideas for a weekly publication similar to a Coffee News, Laughable News or Tidbits.

The publication is meant to be entertaining while informational providing interesting, light hearted and easy to read text. Advertisements feature local businesses.

Distribution reaches a wide demographic where they live, work, shop and play.

We will be using this as a sales companion to our Cartoon Town Maps; however, the name need not include anything in regards to cartoon.

Hoping to find a name that is classic but fun and easy to remember. We will handle domain names once an idea is chosen.

A couple of our favorite ideas at this time is:

Town Talk Weekly

About Town Times

It would be good to know what other competition you have for media outlets or if there is anything distinct about the town that would naturally fit into a title.

In the absence of that, I would personally suggest getting out of the comfort zone a little which I think will more quickly help establish an identity.

We have a local alternative weekly called simply Seven Days. Another local community's weekly shopper type publication is The Flea (as in Flea Market).

As some brainstorming starting points, maybe figure out how long it takes an average person to read it and call it '38 Minutes' (or whatever) as a takeoff on 60 Minutes. If there will be a lot of coffehouse/restaurant distribution, call it something like the 'Weekly Bean' or just 'The Bean'. Or maybe the (name of town) Reader as a play off the Weekly Reader for kids or the 'Reader's Digress' if it is primarily lighthearted easy-to-read text.

All I am saying is that if it isn't really a paper featuring local reported news (and maybe I didn't understand the description correctly), then don't position it as a local weekly newspaper which is to me what Town Talk Weekly implies.

    Regards,
    ~Jason

    'The Drum'

i.e. could mean a roasting drum, or a drum that beats to give the news via the 'bush telegraph' (there's another possible name), or meaning 'the full drum - the whole of the news, the full story'.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks to everyone who has responded, many ideas to ponder.

Vic-My Town Weekly is a favorite around the office.

Jason-I agree since we don't report local news perhaps a less literal name is necessary. Plus a unique name may be more memorable.
