Question

Topic: Taglines/Names

Creative Minds Needed.

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Greetings to all!
I have a dessert catering company that has evolved into more of a non-dessert catering. The current name is The Chocolate Aristocrat. I was thinking of naming it something more like the following:

Adrian West Catering
Epicurean Monk
Central Granary
Adrian Productions

Any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to post.

I really like Epicurean Monk. Sounds sophisticated and different; perhaps a little funky. Also, it would be easy to come up with a cool logo, and themed promotions.

Central Granary sounds like a bakery to me, and Adrian Productions isn't as specific as I think it should be (could be an event production company, for example). If you did Adrian West Catering, I think you'd need to build yourself as the brand -- making your personality prominent in your marketing. For example, think of how central Wolfgang Puck is in all his marketing. That could be fine, but really depends on how you want to market.

Randall (WMMA) is right on the money. Rather than change the name, change/evolve your tagline to explain your current focus.

Whay not stay with what you have as suggested by W.M.M.A. but add to it?

The Chocolate Aristocrat by the Epicurean Monk.
The church and state confusion bothered me until I used aristocrat as the spin off.

The Chocolate Aristocrat by the Epicurean Nobles (leaving room to grow further and show stability by using the plural) Or use Lords or Ladies.

If the church & state mix still works for you then stick with Monk or Lord (the cadence is better) but the concept of transitioning is good planning.

The idea is to keep your immediate name recognition but introduce your new efforts with the subtext of "by Epicurean Nobles" in small script. If the venture moves in the direction of full blown catering you can begin spinning off the branding of the new company but maintain the singular focus of desserts for the established company (beverages, themes, or planning will be your next move!

    Good Luck!

I agree with Dennis, that you shouldn't give up the original name but instead add a second name to account for the expansion. I'm not sure about Epicurean Monk...though it has a nice ring to it...monks conjure up the image of stark bare living conditions and dirty robes for me personally. But whatever second name you choose to go by, i would suggest maybe making it its own entity. Like a separate Website at least and link them together. That way people who already know the Chocolate Aristocrat can see you've expanded into other areas and click on that link to get there. And those who find you because of catering needs...can see you have a specialization in chocolate/desserts.
