Name For Photography Studio

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I recently posted a question about re-naming my photography studio, but am re-asking the question differently because I don't think I was clear enough last time.

I would like to change the name of my wedding photography business from a very long, generic name that is not easy to remember. Currently, the name is Images of Distinction, and for short it is IOD. My website is iodphotography, which tends to confuse some of my clients who don't understand what IOD stands for.

Since my business is still relatively new, I would like to change the name before it gets too expensive. Here is where i would like help.

I'd like to name it something that creates a visual image in the minds of my future clients. Something they can associate with me, and see it in my branding. Here are some examples that I like, but are either taken by someone else in my half of the state (southern Wisconsin) or aren't quite what I'm looking for:

Blue Daisy Studio
Blue Orchid Studio
Starfish Studio
Something Blue Studio (but feel this may limit me exclusively to weddings)
Star Valley Studios
Blue Cosmo Studio

So can you all, with your infinite marketing wisdom, think of a few more ideas? Bonus points if you get a tagline that flows with the name. :) More bonus points if the name is in the first half of the alphabet so I pop up sooner.

Oh, I forgot to mention that my target market is mainly females, with the majority of them being 23-30.

However, I also will need to appeal to teens (senior pictures), moms (with children), and moms of brides. But these last categories are very secondary.

Thanks in advance!

Being that you can't use Starfish as we discussed last time - I think a one word business name drawing upon your current name would do the trick: "Distinction" with a tagline that reads: "Photography that sets apart your most cherished moments".

The tagline that I came up with just above was specifically designed for that one word brand name. With the right logo (which in the case of Distinction would be some fancy type) I think you could have great flexibility to use imagery such as starfishes and green fields with blue skies and so on in your marketing collateral and branding campaigns. That way if you get tired of one look you can change it while retaining the name -- imagery that speaks distinction. Flexibility and adaptability are key to good branding practice.

However, I do like Blue Orchid or Blue Lunar or Blue Steel or Brushed Steel or Brushed Orchid -- they all have great branding potential. They kind of marry things together pleasantly.

    I can see your dilemma.

Brilliance Photography. I have a wedding coordination company called Brilliance and used a brilliant cut diamond as the logo. If you want to focus on weddings & brides that may work well.

I'd like to know more about you to help you find a name...if you name it something more personal then you'll have a cool story to tell people when they ask how you came up with the name!

    What do you love?
Do you collect anything? ...maybe something you buy on every trip you take?
Do you have children? If so, what are they're names?
    Favourite season?

...maybe just give us a quick write up about yourself, anything that comes to mind that sets you apart as a person.

I named my studio after something I love to buy in each City I visit & added a colour to it...

    Blue Bottle Photography
    - Make your own wine & bottle it in mini blue bottles with your company logo on the label along with a line like "hope you enjoyed your first taste of blue bottle photography...". Give a bottle to each couple either when delivering the couple's photos or on their one year anni.

    Blue Brooch Photography
    - wear a blue brooch to any business thing you do whether a tradeshow or a photo-shoot & use it in your marketing.
