Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hello All,
I am setting up a Danish Bakery in USA based on the best Danish recipes. I hope it will quickly become a bakery chain so I need a great brand and name.
Any advise or help would be appriciated.

What name are you branded under in Denmark? I would use that name in the US. Or come up with something else, if for trademark reasons, you can't use the name you're using now.

An exotic, out-of-the-ordinary name will certainly differentiate you and give you a solid position as a brand that is not your typical pastry next door.

Danish Bakery is good in theory, but in the US danish is considered a type of pastry, we don't really associate it with Denmark. I go into a bakery and order a cheese danish, I'm not thinking of anything exotic from another part of the world.

Jay had a great name that goes in line with my earlier suggestion of sticking to a more "regional" name for the business. He suggested Bagerie or even D'nish, which are great.

I just came up with one based on one of Jay's suggestions...D'nosh or D'nish D'nosh. "Noshing" is another word in the US for eating or snacking. D'nish D'nosh would be great. Depending on what brand personality you're going for. D'nish D'nosh is kind of quirky and fun and would stick in people's minds.

Keep in touch and let us know what you decide. Some samples wouldn't hurt either....lol

Good name suggestions so far. Your tagline should describe more, so maybe something like "the best in Danish recipes"

I'm getting hungry for D'nish D'nosh right now.

"Danish Bakery" is a descriptive category name rather than a brand name; by its nature it's neither protectable nor distinctive. At the very least I would suggest you append a Danish surname in front of it (e.g. Olsen's Danish Bakery in Solvang, California or Larsen's Danish Bakery in Seattle, Washington).
