Name And Tagline For My Biz As A Marketing Consultant...

Posted by Ed on 25 Points
Hello,

For the past two years I have written articles and created marketing publications and worked on other marketing projects, plus promoted and managed events for a small mortgage brokerage (in addition to being a loan officer there with a real estate license). I have also been writing the content on the website (team member bios, etc.) and have done a little database management as well… In addition, I recently helped a new start-up mortgage modification company; helped write the contracts, marketing copy, created the logo, and may write scripts for their trainees…

Anyway, I seem to have some good ideas and talent in marketing and I’d really like to work as a Marketing Consultant for other small businesses. No one else in this area seems to do this, so it may work well for me...?

What name(s) and tagline(s) would anyone here suggest? I originally wanted to focus on marketing for this mortgage company and helping real estate agents market themselves, but recently have been asked to help with a local fitness center!? So, maybe it will grow if I can help others grow as well...?

Thanks to anyone/everyone in advance for your help...

The biggest deal in starting your own company is client base...

Unless you have a great deal of money stashed away to float you through the start-up period, I suggest you find a couple of clients first. Many in this business start with someone capable of keeping them busy 1/3 time before they launch into full time mode.

Often this first client is your previous employer.

Thanks for the replies so far!

I don't know why my question got rated as only 25 points for value; I am new at this and perhaps I didn't select a higher value...? Can I change it? I have also posted two seperate questions and hope that is acceptable here... Or did I commit a faux pas?!

aditi_363: That name & tagline is giving me ideas in that direction, since it does communicate my purpose. As far as being gutsy, I really don't want to be alone in this - I am confident in following through with it all IF I can put it all together as the valuable service it should be, but I haven't done anything like this and think that in order to succeed, it would be best for me to network and at least have a mentor, if nothing else...?!

Frank: I am originally a licensed Mortgage Planner who has marketed to create business leads for myself in the past (however, needless to say, the market has gotten very tough!). Because of my focus on marketing, I have earned the opportunity to handle more and more of the marketing for the brokerage I work for, since the owner values my ideas and it really has helped her to have someone reliable to market and promote the company (yeah, working pro bono or, in some cases, free, since it wasn’t originally my job description to begin with). The owner wants to pay me on an independent contractor basis now, so I need a business name, etc. to get paid)… It has, however, taken much of my time and effort away from actually marketing just “me” to grow my own business as a loan originator, so it has been a rough transition already!

I have recently worked with another very small start-up and may begin helping a local fitness center with their marketing too... so I seem to be in some kind of start-up period so far and feel I need guidance...

    "SEE - Small Enterprise Expertise"

    ...That's cool! Thank you...

It's definitely a challenge to do this - especially without a degree (I know that others have done well without one). I think real world biz experience is best - and who you connect with absolutely helps. BTW, I think you can be confident to succeed at your own business venture in the same way!

Knowing myself well enough, I'll admit that my biggest challenge for now is that I need to put it ALL together without missing a detail in EVERY way possible... without that need ultimately keeping me from moving forward as a business! I don't want to be stuck in "planning and preparation" mode forever!

I've been around the "too big to learn" attitudes/opinionated types; it's not as productive overall - and definitely not conducive to anyone's positive growth. We influence those around us whether they like it or not; they should like it!

...Wow, thanks so much D4Demand; I am still new at this and am still working in other areas (mortgage, etc.), though it is tough... I have been working on the client base of course, but am still putting the rest together (my other question is "...I can be a Marketing Consultant...?"). I didn't think it would take 24 months for positive cash flow...?!

I am planning on keeping my "day job" as well (and at that rate, I may need another day job!), but I definitely wanted the marketing thing to pay off sooner... perhaps getting employed as a marketer would help me as well...? I don't have a degree and only two years of experience doing mostly writing (articles, press releases, bios and content on sites and literature), creating literature with some design, plus events and other projects but am very interested in learning and doing much more this field...

Thanks again for your advice; I know there is much more to all of this and that's why I am here...
