Catering Service Indian-asian Food For Offices

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi,

I offer food pickup services for busy people. Now, I am trying to expand into starting a catering service in New Jersey. I want to cater to corporations, offices and their cafeterias. For ex: I will be delivering food to their cafeteria or one day a week take over their cafeteria or just provide food for their events.

I will be using online & direct b2b marketing by mailing them about my business & offering tasters.

My dilemma is that: A.) I need an awesomes name & B.) How can I best market my service, so that I can get results.

My food will be authentic Indian food that is 100 % Vegetarian. I will be operating from my kitchen for now. Will occasionally have helpers. It will be more like Fusion Cusine as I know plain Indian may not fly. I need a really good unique name that is stylish enough for offices. I should be able to register this name as a domain. Examples of names that I liked but are taken: redcloves, blue ginger, bay leaf, curry leaf, mint leaf. Please help!

    Hi Phil,

Thanks for responding. I did that and there are other restraunts by those names already. I understand that I can have by biz or org but, by doing that I may acutally end up sending people to other sites accidently and I want to avoid that.

    How about something like:
    Blue Ginger Fusion
    Red Cloves Fusion
    IndiFuse.com for Indi Fuse Kitchen
GingerFusion.com for The Ginger Fusion Kitchen

    Hope this helps,
    Mike

    Hi Sneha,

This seems as an interesting initiative. I have a slightly different view on it, though.

I would suggest you focus on one genre of food. Since you're an Indian and your expertise lies in Indian food I would suggest that you should sacrifice the idea of fusion (Chinese/oriental) cuisine.
    There are a few reasons:

    1. The fusion food may not appeal to the palate of either ethnic Indians or ethnic Chinese. As an Indian myself, I know that what is relished as (Indian version) Chinese food by Indians is completely unpalatable to the Chinese.

    2. Even if you were to get authentic Chinese cooks to man the kitchen and even if the products were to be great, building credibility could be a challenge because you as Indian business head will not be able to impart credibility to the Chinese food offering. Moreover, your intent of keeping 100% vegetarian food may find few takers among ethnic Chinese as their food habits are largely non-vegetarian.

    3. You could build a very solid business within a very large Indian community in the New Jersey area. You should look at the target, in this case Indians, and serve them with a variety of foods including Indian style Chinese foods, if that be the case. But your calling card should remain "a range of authentic foods from India that stoke the nostalgia of back
home". These could even be snacks (bhel puri or chola bhatura etc) which are immensely popular in India. Given that Indian cuisine is gradually catching the fancy of non-Indians across the world, I wouldn't be surprised if the non-core targets also try your food every now and then. This should clearly be seen as a bonus.

Am pretty much certain this would have far better chances of success.

As per the name, if you're going the institutional way, i.e no dine- ins etc, then don't be bothered about it too much. It could be as simple, personalized, beautifully Indian and unique as "Sneha's Kitchen". In fact, it now seems good enough to be used even for a boutique restaurant that you may want to open at some stage.

    All the best!

To market yourself, why not also hand out flyers for your new business with each delivery (or, get an introduction to the office manager at each company to make your "pitch").

As for domain names, the following are currently available:
    SEAsiaCatering.com
    CurryCatering.com
    RedClovesCatering.com
    BlueGingerCatering.com

    Thanks everyone for their response.
Mike, I kinda like Gingerfusion & Jay's Blue Ginger catering but they don't seem "the one" yet....I still need more time to think. As, it doesn't really convey what the cusine is about, but then again for a corporation this might be good.

    Vigyan,
I appreciate your response. Currently, I have a website in place that caters to Indians specifically and that's momskitchen.webs.com. But, I was looking to create another website independent from this one for my catering service as that will cater to offices & their cafeterias. I agree with ur # 3.) response.

    Jay,
I like your idea about making geting in touch with office managers etc.. & like that name blue ginger catering.

    Guys: One more try please.
Imagine your bored eating salads, sandwhiches etc.. You want something more flavorful but healthy & fresh. I can provide authentic Indian food & Indian style chinese food, that is cooked fresh daily with quality ingredients. It is flavorful, fresh, healthy & 100% Vegetarian. Something that conveys that....
