Internal Newsletter - Industrial Supplier

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Good morning everyone,

Bear with me on the long post - I tried to give as much info as possible upfront :)

I'm working on an internal newsletter and need both ideas for content and a title. It will mostly like go out once a month, unless I can come up with enough content to send it every other week, to the entire company via email in pdf form.

The newsletter will (hopefully) appeal to all departments: outside sales, customer service, purchasing, IT, accounting, warehouse. We have 5 branch offices across Michigan and one satellite office in Fort Wayne, IN.

I'd like to use the newsletter as not only a communications tool but to help create discussions and unite our branch offices/departments.

Our company name is Hubbard Supply Co. and our tagline is "Delivering Products, Services and Innovative Solutions".

The list of topic ideas I have so far is:
1. new customers
2. customer/situation case history (i.e. how high level customers were obtained or how a major issue was resolved)
3. cost saving of the month idea
4. common customer objections
5. list of upcoming events/tradeshows
6. available marketing materials
7. operations news
8. "overheard in the office" section (funny quotes - could also be contributed by employees)
9. birthdays/company anniversaries
10. company quiz/fun trivia question with chance to win a gift card for correct answer
11. vendor focus
12. employee contributed article on topic of their choice

Any further ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Nadia

I would also include important tips for employees to succeed in the company. You could interview people that retired from the organization (a blast from the past) and engage in interviews with key figureheads in the company.

I have put together many such newsletters for various clients who are wholesale distributors. When these things are launched there is always great enthusiasm on the part of the creators. Often these start off as once per month and after 4 months go to bi-monthly and then to quarterly then to "as issued". The point of saying, don't try to do the once per week - instead start off with less and work to more.

Ideas for writing - vendors, consultants (like me), company officers write a bit about themselves, and dont forget the 'gossip section' people love to see their own name in print.

I do newsletters and I find that typically employees are most interested to hear:

    - Company successes
    - Company vision (and how it fits into each initiative)
    - How the company is doing. Updates on goals & performance for different areas, especially sales. Though this might be something you cover in a meeting instead.
    - Photos & videos - they love multimedia

It helps to name the authors. People will read it if it's from the CEO.

Why use PDF? You could just do an HTML email, with shorter summaries in the email, and links to the full story on your intranet. I think that would be easier to read; people won't scroll through long stories.
