Sorry, just one man's opinion, but I hate having to look at the phone to figure out where the letters and numbers correspond. I'd much prefer just the numbers so I can punch buttons without thinking too much. (I almost said "dial," which would have really made me an old guy!)

I don't know if you need a vanity number - might save you a couple of bucks and let you buy yourself another round of direct mail postcards, or something. BUT, just my opinion.

    Good Luck!

I wouldn't do a vanity number at all Cnolte is right, there are more expensive and frankly it can get annoying trying to find the numbers and the letters, and remember what exactly the phrase was. We get so many customer calling for our competitor but calling us instead because the can't remember the exact phrase...

I am also not very bif on the vanity numbers. I think people will call because they got a referral, have a card, saw an ad or postcard, etc. In this case they will have the number right there.

If you are starting local, I wouldn't even do a toll free number as it will make you look like a big impersonal corporation. I think many people like to hire local companies when possible. If you branch out you can always add a toll free number later.

    Just my opinion. Good Luck.

hi. unlike some of the self professed "oldies" who replied above, i am young, still at uni and have grown up with vanity numbers and email on my mobile...
and from my pov, and those in my age group, sort out your website first, dont worry about a vanity number. we will look you up online first, and whatever number listed there will be used.
if you 're competing with GOT JUNK, it gets too confusing and you may inadvertently create business for them through your advertising.

so. i think website. and just any old number will do.

Vanity numbers are a bad idea. Most people use cell phones and more and more of those having QWERTY keypads, this make it impossible for letters and numbers to line up.

I have a blackberry and as obrewton above notes, the keys do not match up to a regular phone number. Twice I have picked up my phone to make an impulse call and both times I became very frustrated because they didn't have the numbers typed out below the vanity number.
I would look for an easy number to use (1-800-800-8000) and what about the possibility of throwing out your own text number on the side of your trucks to respond to? As pointed out, this younger generation is text happy and a lot of the news/radio organizations seem to be doing very well with it. Even if they texted you, you could auto-text your phone number right back to them.

I'm one of the "almost oldies" and I'll pop in and throw my points behind Tove. Go for the great website with links and any phone number will do. You might get more contacts through the website than the phone. Heck, some great video on You Tube might bring you great results too!

Good Luc (or 466-3582 for those punching phone buttons.)

I would stay away from vanity numbers for all the reasons already stated.

You can, however, work with your phone service provider to find an easy to remember number. Of course, most are taken, but if you can find one that has duplicate digits, or ascending or descending digits, it is easier to remember.

For example, a local cab company has a number that is all the same digit. They get more calls than anyone. Another company has the last digits ending in 4321.
