Community Newsletter As A Tool For Advertising

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
hi everyone,

i am planning to put up a sort of ad agency, it's like a community directory in the form of 4, 6 or 8 pages newsletter. we will be giving the newslettter for free to all living in the specified community per area, of cors the advertiser will pay for their ad placement.

we are going to look for a client, like for example, a laundry shop, spa center, salon, who is willing to advertise their shop that will run for 1 or 2 months. the plan is not yet wholly "planned".

u think this is a good idea? i need a good name for this newsletter and a catchy tagline. and i hope u can give me suggestion on how to start and how to go about my plan.

thank in advance

We have one where I live - my husband has a pet sitting business and with his $10 ad gets all his clients so it's perfect for us. Unfortunately they are going out of business soon because the advertising doesn't support the printing/distribution cost.

Try to get a graphic designer and printer to do the work for free in exchange for a full page ad in the newsletter. Have you ever sold ads before? It's extremely challenging and requires patience and persistence. Who will design the ad? Will advertisers have exclusivity in their category? Who will distribute the newsletter (mailed or door drop?) Will you give advertisers discounts for multiple issues? Your best bet would be to get a 6-month commitment so you're not forced to sell tons of ads each issue. Make sure to get payment up front, or at least a deposit, to avoid chasing checks.

    Good luck!

actually, i have a graphic artist but of cors that is included in the overhead expenses. but the printer, im sure they will not agree for exdeal, they dnt need it. we have to pay for the printing cost. and that is what i want to know, on how to really start this small idea. can u give me idea on how to compute or the operational strategy in putting up ds business. if u can give me more idea, appreciate it very much, since i will start from scratch. u can find my email on my profile, if u wish to give me more ideas.

    thank u

First, make sure that the directory has information that's useful to the residents. You want them not to simply scan it and toss it, but have a reason to keep it on their bulletin board. For example, create a list of upcoming events (street fairs, museum openings, etc.)

To save money, try to get the residents to sign up for the newsletter via email (and distribute it via email). It'll save you printing & mailing costs. You can spend the savings on improving it's appearance. While you're at it, why not create a simple website for the community, and have the ads also on it?
