Branch Campus Name

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
Northwest Lineman College (www.lineman.edu) will be opening a branch campus in Texas over the next two years. NLC trains electrical lineworkers to construct, maintain, and operate the power delivery system.

The state of Texas requires educational institutions using the word "college" to have been offering AA degrees for a minimum of 4 years before entering the state, which is a requirement that NLC does not yet meet. Therefore, the word "college" cannot be included in the name of the Texas branch campus.

I am seeking a name for the branch campus that does not include the word "college."

Northwest Lineman College is very well recognized across the United States in the Power Delivery Industry and enjoys a very good reputation. Although we will be tying the Texas branch campus to Northwest Lineman College with similar logos, similar (but different) names would be a plus.

Experience has shown that the word "Northwest" does not deter people from enrolling as our California branch campus has been very successful and its name is also "Northwest Lineman College."

Your assistance is appreciated.

Sincerely,
Aaron Howell,
President

    Aaron,
Phil provides great options. You might consider whatever you do - adding the tag, "a division of Northwest Lineman College," or "affiliated with Northwest Lineman College," or something similar so there is no question that you are indeed the one and only.

    Good Luck!
Hope you have a great football season - gee a team made up of only linemen....

    Aaron,
Leverage the recognition across the US that you have, and go with Northwest Lineman Texas. According to your success in California, "Northwest" stopped being a geographical designation and became (with Lineman) identifiable as a learning institution.

    Good luck!

Client's request: name for branch campus that does not include the word "college."

Hi, Aaron -- In addition to the good suggestions my marketing colleagues have already supplied, you can consider:

    Northwest Lineman Educational Center

    Northwest Lineman Center of Excellence

As a consultant for a college that offers bachelor through doctorate degrees, I worked on various communications for the college's other profitable operations. One is called "The _______________ Institute," which offers nondegree courses for adults. All marketing and sales materials for the Institute clearly state that the entity is operated by ____________ College, giving potential students a certain level of comfort knowing that only experienced/educated people will be teaching the courses they attend. Aaron, you definitely should include the Texas entity's affiliation with Northwest Lineman College in your communications.

Hope this is helpful. Good luck. If I can help you further, contact me offboard.

My vote is for Northwest Lineman Institute. It is clear that you would like to keep the Northwest Lineman I would change this to college as soon as you have met the stipulations Texas has made.

Another idea could be Northwest Lineman Training Center, but I still think institute sounds more substantial.

Northwest Lineman - Texas Campus might work as well and just let people fill in the college part in their mind.
