Is Colorful Brand Effective On White Background?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Is a colorful brand effective on a white background when packaging a consumer product?

I am introducing a new consumer product that will be sold in book stores and the cleaning-aisle of retail stores. The product will help consumers have a cleaner home.

The logo, brand and photos of the product are colorful and will be featured on the packaing.

Is it effective for the package to have a white background?

The effectiveness of art on a white background really depends on the art itself. It first, depends on if you're communicating the brand effectively with the art, then the design itself.

Your question is not a branding question, but a pure graphic design quest for advice.
As any graphic design expert will tell you, there is no such thing as an opinion on visual problems, without physically seeing the elements involved.
So any advice given to you here will have to be completely subjective to intellectual opinions, but not good enough for a real visual solution.
The correct answer to your question could be both "yes" and also "no", based on my personal experience.

It really does depend on what it is and the art work. What will this have to compete with? If it will be in the retail world go to a store that would carry this product and puruse the the ailses. What jumps out at you? What fades into the surroundings? Create a mock-up and put it on a shelf and see how it compares to the things around it.

    Hope this helps,
    Mike
