Should I Change My Shop Name?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hi everyone!

My main questions are
1) Should I change my shop name?
2) Suggestions for more names
3) Taglines for my shop

I am currently running an online shop at livejournal (for 2 months), selling affordable women's apparels, and going into accessories and bags soon. Target is females in their 20s-30s, even late teens, ranging from basics to classy. Based in Singapore.

I have named it OurGlassMansion as I wanted my shop to be able to sell anything that can be found in a house ('mansion')and everything will be transparent to everybody ('glass'), but am focusing on ladies apparels and fashion for now. 'Our' depicts the buyer and seller relationship, and also 'our glass' has a pun of 'hourglass' (bringing to mind the female's curves).

However, I'm kind of feeling that OurGlassMansion is quite long to remember as an URL and recently some friends of mine are hosting a server/coming up with a site where they want to collate a few friend's shops together as partner shops. Hence my URL will be ourglassmansion.oursecrethaven.com and I find it such a mouthful and hard to remember!

I'm also aware of losing potential customers who have bookmarked my page, but since my shop is only about 2 months old, I think my customer base is still pretty small.

Thus I'm seriously thinking about changing my shop name, and if so, I need suggestions of an easy to remember and stylish name.

So far, I have thought of DrFashion, DrStyles, HerUniverse, Cosmopolita (spanish for cosmopolitan).

If anyone could suggest taglines, that'll be awesome too!

Appreciate all comments and advice! Thank you all very much!

Love,
Shannon

    1) Should I change my shop name? Yes - As Phil mentions, it's not a name that says anything useful to your prospects

    2) Suggestions for more names: Chic Home, B Chic, Feel Chic, Love It

    3) Tagline for your shop: Affordable and Stylish Apparel and Accessories

I would look at changing the name as well, but not to OurGlassMansion.

    How about

    Your Style
    The Stylish You
    Styled For You

When I think of clothing stores, many of them are just people's names.

    Shannon's
or any other name for that manner. Perhaps the most common female name of the generation.

    Jessica's
    Ashley's
    Jennifer's
    Amanda's
    Brittany's

Just because you will be partnering and sharing a server does not mean that you can not have your own domain name. Regardless of your name, I would get your own domain name and not just name.oursecrethaven.com. You can have both.

    Hope this helps,
    Mike

I think you have established a customer base already. I would suggest to cut the name to "Glass Mansion" Or transition to OGM. It is very hard to change a name once you have a customer base. People will think that its under new owners or something went wrong with your company. Also by adding a good tag line like will support your name. Such as "Woman's Classic Wear" Or "For the elegant woman". Maybe "Todays Elegant Fashion."

Hi, thanks all for your responses!

No worries about offence Phil, I came with an open mind to hear what others have to share!

I read in other comments for questions on naming business, that its good to pick a general name and then use a tagline to describe a little more about the industry, especially for shops which are a little more generic in nature, so I actually thought that OurGlassMansion fell in that category.

As for the 'hourglass' meaning, I am thinking of making that known through my logo, if I stick to OurGlassMansion that is.

Bwr2, I have been using OGM as an acronym here and there, but I know that there are other shops (same industry) whose acronyms are OGD and OGP, would there be a confusion?

Phil, as for the return rate, most fashion blogshops only do returns based on defects and not for reasons such as dislike and cannot fit. Such customers would sell off the items on the selling communities as brand new if they have never worn, or pre-loved if they have worn it a few times. I'm in this more as a hobby business than a big-money business. But I do appreciate your concerns =)

Please keep your comments coming in! Thank you all so much!
