Name/tagline Ideas For A Free Online Sms Service

Posted by Anonymous on 150 Points
My company is starting a SMS service that offers free SMS messages to the public daily, funded by advertising text. The service is new to the market where we are based (East Africa), in the Sense that as far as I know no one uses a similar business model (Some company charges for Text Messages, and they do not include advertising in their models). Our service will also allow sending of bulk messages for things such as CRM etc.

We are looking for a brand name for the service. We need a brand name for the public (free web SMS users) thats short, simple and that says "cutting edge". We have decided to use a different brand name for our advertisers that is more corporate leaning. We are not really sure about this though, logic would have it that we maintain a single brand for both. The Idea was to have a serious "sounding" brand of a new advertising medium to the advertisers, while for the free sms users, we have a "cool" brand. Both should sound cutting edge though since we pride ourselves for offering cutting edge solutions so the name should reflect that. The target market for the free web serviice is young and trendy, but the service should be appealing enough for corporates (In our target market, SMS medium is currently not looked 'corporate' enough a channel. We want to change this.

A friend suggested we use iTxt (iText) and we might actually end up using that.

Please help us come up with a nice Brand Name/Tagline for the 2 brands.

Oh my...I'm looking for SMS (Texting software) that I could use here in Canada for contesting, building customer lists, texting customers when their order is ready, etc, etc, etc. Perferably texting software that I could use on my Linux servers (Apache, PHP, MySQL). If you have that too, let's talk (find me via my profile here on Marketing Profs).

TXTfree or FREEtxt would be a couple of suggestions.

I like iTXT, but still too close to iPod brands if you ask me.

    TXTme, TXT4fun are two more.

    Thanks Darcy and Bronxbob,

Darcy, sorry I dont have the software you are looking for, try PlaySMS it may have some of the features. I think they stopped developing it though. It's free and open source so you can customise it to your needs. TXTFree could work for the free Web SMS users version, but it doesnt say anythng other than the service is free. We are looking for trendy, cutting edge. And for the advertisers another brand name that sounds cutting edge and corporate (as I said our target market don't consider SMS medium corporate yet :-).

Bronxbob Thank you for the many suggestions. I am gonna wait it out for any more suggestions and I ll let you know if i decide to use any.
