Name & Tagline Ideas For Women's Clothing Business

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hi All!

My friends and I are opening a shop that'll sell women's clothing and accessories. We'll be purchasing the items from various Asian countries and we'll post ads on our website too. We want to focus on clothes that can be worn daily, and though we may venture into selling a few jackets, office shirts and slacks, we'll mainly be offering sandals, leather and cloth slippers, plain and beaded flats and bags, plain and printed dresses, skirts, and blouses made of light material like chiffon, linen, japanese cotton, etc.

Since the business is still in the start-up phase, we're thinking of utilizing a small space owned by my friend and turning this into a quaint boutique. We want the place to feel homey while still looking chic, so warm and welcoming colors will be brought into play.

Our target market will be ladies aged 19 - 40, regardless of profession, who enjoy dressing while they carry out daily activities like having coffee with friends, shopping, doing the groceries, attending their children's school events, trips to the salon or simply gracing casual cocktails.

We'd like to avoid putting the words "women / clothes / accessories / shoes / bags / dresses / closet / things" in our name and tag line because most of the shops around town already do that, and we'd like avoid sounding generic.

Would really appreciate your help. The more suggestions, the merrier!

Thank you all for your time :-D

    Hello Mansi Shah and Mike,

Thank you very much for your suggestions! I wanna absorb as many name / tag line ideas as possible to make sure we pick the right ones. So keep em' coming!

    Dear Phil,

Thank you for your thoughts and advice. I missed out on mentioning that I live in the Philippines, and this fact is relevant because the clothing business is run quite differently here than in other countries.

We don't really worry about the "Return Rate" because almost all boutiques operate on the premise that a purchase is final unless the customer tells the shop's staff / management that he/she is planning to give the item as a gift and he/she isn't sure it'll fit the receiver. In this case, the buyer is usually allowed 3 days (7 days for other shops) to return the merchandise, given that the tag is still attached, the item is unstained and hasn't been worn.

Items returned for the reason that they don't fit the buyer are not accepted because the customer is expected to fit the item prior to making the purchase. Refunds are not allowed and the customer can only exchange the first purchase with an item of the same price, or one that costs more, provided that he/she pays for the added amount.

These policies are pretty clear cut and most of the clothing businesses here are conducted this way. I know it doesn't favor the customer's rights as much as shops in the US do, but it seems to work for Filipinos. Most business owners have had to be pretty strict about returns because many customers take advantage of this benefit and will refuse to spend if they know they can just use / wear the item and get their money back by returning it later. The only boutiques that really allow returns based on customer complaints are the high-end clothing stores (i.e. Lacoste, Prada, Mango, Promod, Armani, etc.) but cash refunds are still not allowed.

    Hope this info helps :-)

Thank you again for your input!
