Re-naming My Shop

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I HAVE A RETAIL STORE CALLED NAMASTE- I sell curios, gifts, jewellery, clothing - rather upmarket and inherited the shop name

I would like to make it "mine" and was thinking of calling it something like Polka Dots and Rainbows or Jaja ? something else (acronym of my families initials)

Any suggestions? My family thought the Polka Dots and Rainbows sounds like a toy shop or young girls clothing store but I really love it - what do you think? Or other suggestions appreciated

I think the name Polka Dots & Rainbows is charming, whimsical and enticingly curious.

There's a store in the city where I live that sells the same sort of upscale merchandise that you're selling and the owners named it "Baubles and Beads." The store has been around for several years now and is quite successful.

    Good luck with yours!

If the store has been around for a long time and is known by the current name, I would not rename it. Think of the name recognition as an asset, something with value.

On the other hand if the store has no name recognition then perhaps changing it would be fine.

Polka Dots and Rainbows seems like a name for a children's store. Is your market children or adults?

    Hope this helps,

Why not use the renaming project as a way to connect with your customers? After all they are the one's you are creating the name for. Perhaps you could host a group of your best customers, say about 8 to 10, right at the store. Share with them the ideas you've come up with so far and ask them to provide their own ideas.
