Is My Hvac Company My Problem?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
My own a small residential HVAC business. Our company name is Aggressive Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. I have been advertising in the same local paper since I opened in Dec., 2001 yet I only receive a call or two from the advertisement every so often. (There are other HVAC companies advertising in the same small paper.) Is it my company name? Is Aggressive too aggressive? Please help by suggesting possible other names that may sound better to the ear. Again, I am a residential HVAC installer who does light commercial business in Suffolk County, New York only

I agree that the name may be holding you back some. Not necessarily killing you, but not the most positive name.

I also agree with the comment above that the ads generally will only draw interest when someone needs you. And that yellow pages may be more effective than a local newspaper for getting people who are looking for HVAC service because they have an immediate need.

Continuously advertising in the same paper could also have diminishing effects. The number of readers who are new to each issue is probably small, so most readers would have already seen your ads. May be worth considering reducing your ads there, and trying another location.

What you say in your ads - your unique selling proposition, etc. would play a lot more than your name as to how effective the ads would be.

Aggressive doesn't convey a value that your customers care about.

    1, 2, 3 Suffolk HVAC (or 123 Suffolk HVAC)
    Breathe Easier Suffolk HVAC

By the way, create at least a single-page web page for your business (I couldn't find you easily) and ideally also a (free) Google Local Business Center listing (article: https://www.manygoodideas.com/2008/07/01/boost-your-stores-foot-traffic-for...)

It's not your name....but it may very well be your media.. (please no hate mail from newspaper types)

I believe you need to better target how you spend your dollars. If I were you, I would rather have my sticker on 100 furnace/AC units than have my ad in the paper for a week. Why, because I know people read the sticker before they call a repair company.

Its hard to make many more comments without knowing the dynamics of your market, but... There are people who specialize in HVAC Contractor Marketing programs...

I agree with others about spreading your advertising to other media.

I look on the web first for things and this is becoming more common for people. Do you have a website? As Jay mentioned get a small website (even a page up). This can grow as you have more resources for it. A website is a great place for customer testimonials and advice. Perhaps you can answer some common questions that people will be looking for the answer for. This will increase the likelyhood of people finding your site.

Be sure to enter a business listing in Google Maps, https://www.google.com/local/add/businessCenter?gl=US&hl=en-US. This will be another way people can find you.

The yellow pages are another great place to advertise for a business such as yours. People often times look there in an emergency.

You need to be sure to provide tools for past clients to refer friends. Do you give past clients refridgerator magents, business cards, etc. People often times will only use contractors that people have referrred. Be sure you make it easy for past clients to refer you.

Maybe set up an email service that reminds people to change their filters in there HVAC system. This will constantly remind people that you perfromed their service.

    Hope these ideas help,

    Mike
