Private College Counseling Service Name

Posted by Anonymous on 750 Points
I run a national private College Counseling Service for high school students. My company name is COLLEGE CONNECTION, with a tag line: it's your future. connect with it.

My dilemma is what to call my service or curriculum. It is currently called "The Twelve Steps to Success", but commonly gets equated to the Alcoholics Anonymous 12 Step Program. Thus, the need for a new name for the service!

The service or curriculum is designed to be a series of one-on-one sessions with students to walk them through the often overwhelming process of College Admissions. It includes services like: Online Career and Interest Assessments, Developing College Criteria, College List, SAT/ACT Planning, Application & Essay assistance, Campus Visit strategies, Extracurricular Activities Guidance... I've been able to differentiate myself in a traditionally low-tech industry, by leveraging lots of technology- pod casts, webinars, powerpoint presentations, eNewsletters, online assessments & tools.

I like the idea of step-by-step, sort of a formula for success (showing up as a good match college for the student).

Any ideas?

    Lynette,
Try using pillars instead of steps. Platforms is ok too, but I think pillars is a better word picture.

    lynette,

In Greek mythology, PEGASUS was a winged horse that was the son of Poseidon.A winged horse fabled to have sprung from the body of Medusa when she was slain. He is noted for causing, with a blow of his hoof, Hippocrene, the inspiring fountain of the Muses, to spring from Mount Helicon.

Now lets analyse you are in the education business so evoking greek centric cognitions in the customers mental framework can work well for you. This is because we generally associated ancient greeks to be knowledgable. More over the word is used to connote "a leap towards a new beginning".

So calling your product "PEGASUS 12" Along with a winged horse logo will work wonders for you.

I would also advise you sub-brand each of the categories that you presently have like Online Career and Interest Assessments, Developing College Criteria, College List, SAT/ACT Planning, Application & Essay assistance, Campus Visit strategies, Extracurricular Activities Guidance...

Sub branding will help create distinct categories and will help you to charge a premium at a later stage.

(Aside: You might not want to focus on the number 12, in case you develop a 13th step or find one of the steps to be redundant. Instead, focus on the overall goal for the program.)

Thank you for all the great suggestions. I am going for a more modern, hip vibe -- my clients are teenagers. I love the Pillars idea and Pegasus concept, but it seems too old school for my clientele.

I am toying with the word "NextGen" or something hip, but not too far out for parents.

I like the comment about staying away from a number, as I am always expanding my services. I do break my 12 Steps into three subgroups: Self Knowledge, College Readiness, and College Match.

    Any other brainstorms?
    Thanks,
    Lynette

Hi Lynette, with your new input you could have several options:

    1. Instead of "12 steps" use "Three Phases" it will still indicate a structured process. (Or three notes, three colors, three waves .....?)

    2. You could add: "Knowledge - Readiness - Match", as sort of a text/short speak.

    3. NexGen has been used too much already as has NuWave. Try googling teenager jargon and you may find some inspiration.

    Best of Luck
