I was a member of Marketing Professionals about two years ago when looking for inspiration to name our first Children’s Nursery when eventually settled on ‘Boys & Girls Nursery’, two years on I still think the name is fantastic and it does exactly what it says on the ‘tin’ ! Our first outlet just north of London (UK) has gone from strength to strength and even in these hard times is a thriving business to the point we are in the process of constructing our second children’s nursery slightly closer to London (UK). Obviously there are other aspects of the nursery that make it sell but by starting with the name we have been able to create our own little mini brand in the local area that has become very popular topic of conversation among the local mother meeting groups. Please feel free to take a look at our website – www.boysandgirlsnursery.com !
Previous to starting the nursery business I was looking to set up a 24 hour on call business for plumbers, electricians etc to London residents and was going to use the business name ‘Tradesmen of London’ (and also registered all the Counties around London for future growth). Looking back now I’m glad I chose the nursery business but another opportunity has come up with the builder that built the first nursery and is currently building the second. She has asked me to go in to business with her after my second nursery is finished as she likes my drive to get things done etc. I agreed with the condition that I can start a new company and create a new brand / website from scratch as her current company (4 Site) does not do it any justice at all. I immediately thought of the word ‘Tradesmen’ which I came across previously but after speaking to family and friends to name a building company ‘Tradesmen of London’ is very restrictive to the area of London and they said it sounds ‘too’ expensive and they think we will put people that live on the outskirts of London off as they will presume we trade at ‘London prices’.
I still really like the word ‘Tradesmen’ for a few reasons;
• Builder sounds very common and I presume the word Tradesmen would have been used many years ago with some houses in London having ‘Tradesmen Entrances’ etc
• It does what it says on the tin and feels more reliable than ‘builder’
• In the UK recently we have seen pop bands and old brands reappearing from the past like ‘Take That’, ‘Spice Girls’ and seen older documentaries returning to the screens which has now become a bit of a fashion etc
BUT to use the word Tradesmen alone does not sound right and I was looking for some suggestions of business names to either include Tradesmen, but not restricted to London, or any other clever name rather than just using ‘Jon’s Builders’ which seems to be the current format among current companies…
…all help is very much appreciated !
Kind Regards,
Jon Kirby
