Tag Line Needed: Says What We Do And Our Promise

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
My business is a new start-up called My PA. We offer outsourced personal assistance/business administration targetted at small and medium sized businesses as well as new start-ups. For small businesses, the idea is to free the business owner from administrative chores so they are free to focus their time and efforts on the core activities of their business. Another benefit is to relieve them of the initial expenses and ongoing overheads associated with equiping and manning an office. Since the business name does not obviously suggest what we do, I'd like our tagline to say it as well as convey our promise of a dependable, professional service.

You don't mention where you are or what geographic area you serve, and that would seem to be pretty important to identify your target audience.

And I agree with others who say that the name you've chosen doesn't do much for you at all. You might as well call it "ABC Company." My PA can mean a lot of different things, and the name lays too much of the burden on the tagline to communicate your positioning.

Ouch guys! That said, thank you for your quick responses, frankness and honesty.

NucoPro: while I understand that PA would evoke thoughts of Penn., it wouldn't where I come from. St Lucia an island in the West Indies (Caribbean).

I realize now that I probably should've given a bit more thought and sought more advice during the naming process. Unfortunately, the business is already registered with this name so its a keeper.

I too agree with NuCoPro. My PA could even be misunderstood as slang for my father.

You are a new start up. Changing your name at this point would be a small cost. Here in WI it is $40 to amend a LLC or corp name.

It would be different if you had invested heavily in marketing the name My PA and had an established customer base who knew you by that name. But you are a start up.

I would make a list of good descriptive names and then see which are available as a .com. Register the domain and then change the company name to match.

(sigh)I've already registered a domain name and have a website. I appreciate the suggestion to target a higher market segment. Nucopro: I like your idea for a tag, I had thought of something similar 'Focus on your business, we'll focus on you!' however I was hoping for something shorter. Can we pretend that the name is not changing? I know you guys can help me cause I've seen your suggestions before. I have been knocking around a couple ideas, I know you all will be brutally frank. I was thinking along the lines of 'we mean business!' Or 'personal assistance is serious business'

I think you need to make it clear in the tagline that you're serving St. Lucia businesses. Otherwise you'll be wasting a lot of time/effort/money reaching people who wouldn't consider hiring you.

Jay's approach with "Providing extra help to St Lucia businesses" is the right direction. Or "St Lucia's business management advantage."

As for taglines that are too long, that's going to be necessary if you really are stuck with a name that needs explaining. (One more plea to reconsider the name. It will save/make you more money in the long run.)

If your name were "St Lucia Business Advantage" then you could use "Personal Assistance to Boost Your Bottom Line."
