Name For A New Cheese Business

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Any good ideas for a new company offering home made cottage cheese? Does not need to have the word "cheese" in it because the long term plan is to expand into the food category and adding more food items which are healthy and delicious.

The answer will probably be found through research. You always want to start with research.

    Where is the cheese made?

    Who makes the cheese?

How long have they made cheese?

When did they start making cheese?

Where did they start making cheese?

Why did they start making cheese?

How did the first batch of cheese taste?

Who ate the first batch of cheese?

See where I'm going with this. The more questions you ask about the history of the company, the more Glossary Words you will come up with.

If the first batch of cheese was made with wooden pots and spoons or a ceramic bowl, you might add those things to the list.

    1. Wooden Spoon
    2. Ceramic Bowl
    3........etc

You can ask for a name and get a generic, cookie cutter reply. OR, you can do some research and make a list.

Once you do that, if you bring that list back here and provide it to everyone, you might be shocked at how creative people can be. Without the list, though, you might as well google "Cottage Cheese" and run with whatever pops up.

There is a formula to great ideas and it ALWAYS starts with research.

    Good luck.

I’d stick with “Cheese” in the title as it has a cachet missing from other foods, especially if you are going for the quality end of the market.

My friend Jamie Stone from St Andrews University went from being a graduate chemist to being a cheese maker to save his estate and castle in Scotland. Discussing company names, he thought that very little apart from “Cheese” in the title mattered, so we plumped on “Aristocratic Twit Cheeses Ltd” with the by-line “Made in Scotland from upper-class milk”

Once we sobered up, he called it something much more innocuous, but still majoring on “Cheese” in the name until he had a reputation and was able to introduce a “xxxx foods” version.

I think that his first major contracts were from Harrods and Fortnum’s, so they must have liked the name he used.

PS Heath warning: Aristos didn’t and still don’t give a toss about fancy branding, but they are amongst the few who can get away with this attitude!
