While historically marketing budget is a function of sales, recently that's become less feasible as companies tighten their belts. I suggest you put together an RFP and post it out there. Base your budget on your response. You can also contact me directly, and we can help you put together a budget—at no charge. We've recently completed a number of similar programs with outstanding results. Good luck!

We generally advise our clients to spend 15 to 25% of their online budget on the web site design and development and the balance on promoting it. This is a general range for a typical business or simple eCommerce site.

One common mistake I have observed is that most businesses invert this ratio and allocate too much of their budget to the design and development of the website. This typically leaves them with a nice, feature-rich site and too few visitors to appreciate it.

I'm making assumptions about your business with too little knowledge about it to go on but a mid-sized organization is likely to be more brand-conscious than a small or very small business and is likely utilizing more marketing channels. Consequently they may spend a slightly larger percentage of their online budget on the site than a small business.

    I hope this helps.
