Hootsuite - Advice For A Newbie?

Posted by AriRose on 250 Points
My company is just starting to look at Twitter as a marketing tool. I've come across HootSuite and want to know if you would recommend it? We are a small company with only a few people on Twitter, so I am not clear how to use it.

Also, if we do want to use it, does it matter if we start out-of-the-gate, or can we join later in the game?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Ari --

If you want a sort of roadmap on what to do to get the most of your initial Twitter experience, you may find pdfs at www.publiside.com. Each guide you through the initial steps and jargon associated with creating and engaging with a quality Twitter presence.

There are several tools with which you can manage multiple users and schedule tweets in advance. Regardless of which you choose, remember to share, inform and tweet things that will be of value to others to help establish relationships via Twitter. It's only "all about you" about 5% of the time in social media.

There's no time like the present to get yourself known with social media ;-)

    Hi Ari,

One additional thought... Do you know that your customers, prospect, fans, etc. are using Twitter?

If not, you might be fishing in the wrong pond, which can waste valuable time, resources and budget.

One suggestion I would make is to use Twitter Search (search.twitter.com) to see if folks are talking about your company, your brands, your people, your industry. Search names, keywords, industry terms, industry conferences, etc.

If they are...that’s great! Let’s get you started down the right track for engaging with them.

MarketingProfs just had a Twitter how-to seminar with Joel Comm (@JoelComm) that you might find useful. (You have to be a Premium Plus member to access it for free.)

Hope this additional information helps, if not there are a lot of experts for you to tap into here.
