Please Help Me To Chose The Best Name

Posted by Anonymous on 1000 Points
Dear profs,

I've been doing some brainstorming to come up with a name for consulting company (security, technology, project management, etc.)

There is already a solid customer base and the rest will be found via WOM so I am not trying to come up with anything extremely unique or wreck my brain about differentiators etc. It just has to be serious, nicely sounding average name and it does not have to have a meaning at all.

The thing is I am not a native english speaker so I cannot really judge which one from my list is the best.

From the following list - which one do you find original, easy to say and easy to remember?
Thanks a lot in advance!

INTEGRIO / INTEGRA
SKYTRUST
OGMA
KEY STEPS
TARGA / TARGE
CERITAS
TEAM 360
IDEAS FORWARD
Floyce
NEMTO
OXET
Extra Strategy / Dynamic Strategy
BENSON
NOVALTIS
SYNTON
MINTON
BONAVI
OKTEVA
Novia
Open Concept
Rewind Consulting.com
Open Path Consulting
CONDOR
FORTE CONSULTING
POINT NOVA
DEMTON
OBLIMA
SEGRITY

PS: domain name is not a problem as we are not in .com zone

    My vote is for:

    1) Skytrust
    2) Team 360

I like the first one because it has the word trust in it, which is strong. I like the second because of the team aspect.

    Hope that helps!

Obviously I can't comment on each one, but...

    1. Several are too close to existing names that are totally unrelated companies/services. These include Novaltis and Novia, which call to mind a healthcare and cell phone company, respectively.

    2. Others are, in m opinion, too suggestive of something you have little to DO with, such as SKYTRUST (not airline) or Rewind (unless you just correct mistakes).

    3. Still others are just "clunky" words, real or made up. And some of the "made up" ones sound like prescription medications!

    4. But I do have a few favorites from your list, based on what you said. These are:
    - "Condor' (sounds like a vigilant "bird of prey"
watching out for your clients from above)
    - "Targa" - no real reason, just "targeted" feelig
    - "Forte" - as in your particular strength is in protecting,
    like fort or fortress
    - "Segrity" - Reminds me of security and integrity, which
    isn't all bad!

I won't bother suggesting new ones, since you have probably exhausted a legal search on all these, but let us know if you'd like some.

    Dear Fishka,

    TARGA / TARGE

    BENSON

    NOVALTIS

    MINTON

... to my English ear all sound to close to existing companies in the English speaking world and might best be avoided.

My opinion on names counters those of people here but one idea might be to pull something from your parenthetical list above (security, technology, project management).

    So, how about:

    SECURTECH Project Management
    SECURTECH Consulting

Or some variation thereof. They both sound strong and they
both summon up images of technology, accountability, trust,
    and integrity.

I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck with
    your decision.

    POINT NOVA
    original sounding and memorable

    CONDOR
I can picture this image in my mind, although there are many "condor" names, maybe add a second word

    SKYTRUST
    again original sounding and memorable

    best of luck,

    Steve

TEAM 360 and FORTE CONSULTING would be my picks from the list. Agree with the comments above that nonsense words/names are more confusing than helpful. And names that are similar to those of well-known companies are not likely to be remembered properly at all.

Thank you all, VERY helpful thoughts

I am glad so many of you liked

    SKYTRUST
    KEY STEPS
    TARGA / TARGE
    TEAM 360

    - those were my favorites too. Anyone likes Key Steps? I was almost ready to go with Key Steps

Why not integrate the word "consulting" into the name as well, otherwise your tagline will have to explain what the name means? For example:

    Consult 360
    Consulting 360
    Consult Trust
    Key Consulting
    The Consulting Point

Jay Hamilton-Roth, thanks for your answer
Yes, most likely it will be "XXX Consulting", my objective at this point is to make sure that XXX is not too bad by itself.

Your suggestions are too generic for my taste and there will be no way to trademark or to be found on google

"Red Condor Consulting" provides good brand imagery, as your customers can visualize a "red condor" in their minds to support recall and association with the brand icon. As you can see red condor is already taken, albeit in a different product category. They did a good job with the brand imaging. check it out:

    https://www.redcondor.com/

your google search problem will be solved by choosing the right key word phrases for both seo and social media optimization tags.

    hope this helps,

    Hi Steve,
good brand imagery was the reason I want to go with Key Steps, what do you think?

Run google search on images for key steps and you'll see how easy it would be to create a brand around this name

Sorry to differ from the crowd but I go with
    Open Path Consulting
I feel this gives a little insight into your organization, ie, leader not follower, open to new ideas, embracing change, forward thinking, .....
Consulting also instills confidence for the buyer.
As far as branding, this name would allow you a multitude of branding options all pertaining to the name.

Key Steps Consulting is a name used by two businesses in South Carolina and South Africa.

Since you don't care about the meaning of the business name, then Key Steps is a "serious, nicely sounding average name" (what you're looking for).

    Thanks, Jay Hamilton-Roth
2 business is really not that much
Considering we are neither in the USA or SA we probably wouldn't have a problem with registering the name
