I don't believe that many of the members here speak Hindi, but I could be wrong.

    Dear Garfield.mummu

If you are exporting goods to India you MUST assure yourself and your buyers that you are using appropriate translation because unlike English, which is mostly a Subject Verb Object language, Hindi is a subject-object-verb language.

Also note that written text in English uses Hindi "Devanagari" script,
which belongs to the Brahmi Script characters, so phrases in English are transcribed into Hindi characters, not into classical "English characters"

There are online translation systems where you copy and paste and "hey presto!", there's your translation! Using one of these free services:

"Special design" in Hindi might vaguely equate to: visheSha abhiprAya

"Modern design" in Hindi might vaguely equate to: nayA abhiprAya

"Amazing luxury" in Hindi might vaguely equate to: vismayakArI bhoga vilAsa

BUT ... online translation systems are notorious for mangling meanings, so were I in your shoes, I wouldn't touch translations such as those above with a ten foot pole.

I can't state this point strongly enough, so here it is again: CAUTION!

Before you do anything else you MUST talk to NATIVE Hindi linguists to be CERTAIN that your translations make sense in English and in Hindi. And under no circumstances ought you to take the rough translations outlined above as gospel. They're for illustration purposes only. If you use them—or any online, instant translation service—you do so at your own risk.

Any native Hindi speakers out there? Please, come to this chap's rescue.

    I hope this helps.

Hmmm, why do I get the feeling that this is one of the just for fun question posted in the wrong category! I also get the feeling that this is the question Bill was talking about in the post "What's The Worst Infraction". If not then my apologies.

Having said that, here is a suggestion for a name

    Bichona (means bed spread)

    Hi Sherry,

Thanks for your suggestions ultimately, I welcome them.

But let me clarify here, it is not a fun question and in fact this is not from me though someone who is really interested to name her store like that.

And actual status is that one of my client is too impressed and influenced with Indian culture that she is opening up a store for home linens in US ( and ofcourse she will be buying from me in India ) based on Indian buying.

I guess, now it is clear to you.

    Hi Gary,

Thanks for your response too, and actually this is the same even I was thinking ..........u have just expressed it.....NOW I will tell you the actual story......

one of my client is too impressed and influenced with Indian culture so she is opening up a store for home linens in US ( and ofcourse she will be buying from me in India ) based on Indian made products.
So she want to give it a true shade by naming it in the language of country of Origin.

I have made many suggestions to her and she is still considering and looking for more........SO , Be rest assured...she is referring me....a NATIVE Hindi linguists ....

By picking an Indian name in the US, your client may pick a beautiful sounding name, but no one will know what it means (other than native speakers). As a minimum, she'll also need a tagline to explain the name of the store ("Fine Linens From India").

Alternatively, some yoga pose names may be great for her store name, since people may understand the name connection. For example, Tadasana Linens or Savasana Linens.

Hmmmm...Well I had the same concern but she insists and in addition she will have the tagline which will transmit the meaning clearly......But keeping a name based on Yoga Asanas is very typical and in fact it sounds wierd and then there is no connection too........it is going to be a store with high end Bed linen and draperies what say..........!!
