Searching For A Cool Coffee House Name

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
We bought an old building and are converting it into a coffee house; strictly fine coffee and exquisite desserts / treats. The view from the building is incredible. It looks out onto the Bay of Fundy which boasts the highest tides in the world. It is a rural community that has so much potential but has very few community gathering places. The community has suffered many losses with all businesses and services; even people moving away and the local community struggles with negativity and defeatism. New people that see potential ( people from away) see the huge potential in the area and are buying up property. Tourism is the main draw. There is huge tourist traffic potential because the building is beside the Provinces # 1 tourist attraction " The Hopewell Rocks" . I hope that is enough detail. We have been struggling to come up with a catchy name. My husband thought of " Thanks a Latt-eh" - but you'll only get that if your Canadian

I always had this one for a cafe. "Eat here before we both starve" It is true and is sure to get people's attention. Which is what you are after.

Since the Bay of Fundy was/is also known as the 'french bay' you could name it:

    (The) French Bay Café
    or
    Baie Francais Café
    or
    Café Baie Francais

(I think 'thanks a latt-eh' is very clever, but doesn't sound like a place that serves exquisite desserts)

    Good luck. :)

You could build off the geography:
    * Bay of Fundy Coffee House
    * Bay of Fundy Café
    * Hopewell Coffee Rocks
    * Watch The Tides Coffee House

I agree with @davidroth that keeping the name and culture of your coffee house "embedded" within the community is a good idea. I also think that you should exploit the amazing view you explained.

    I recommend:

    Fundy's Froth
    Froth of Fundy Café

Either of these names is very relevant to your community and location. They are cozy and warm sounding names but still very grounded. They convey a sense of ownership for the serenity and beauty of the Bay of Fundy. This type of ownership can only be captured by a small town. It will attract and bond the community.

Additionally, if your town is on the verge of having increased tourism, "local favorites" are always a top spot for tourists and people passing through.

    Best of luck!!

Wow, I really like the answer by @jmranum. No, I am not related to him, nor on his payroll. I would say the same things, about coming up with a warm, inviting name that bonds the community and works in the surrounding beauty. I think both suggestions are great.

    Other ideas:
    Brew of Fundy
    Fundy Coffeehouse
    Brew with a View
    Beans on the Bay

I still like Joseph's better! Good luck,

You guys are awesome...so far I am really liking Hopewell Coffee Rocks. What a great name. Have you ever seen images of the Hopewell Rocks. They call them the worlds giant Flower pots...but it would be cool in the signage to make them look like coffee pots. Check them out on google image. Everyone and their dog has a picture of Hopewell Rocks.
I also love Brew with a view. These are great names.

    Hi,
Try this apps for Iphone, https://www.thebrandgenerator.com its a real tool to generate (intelligent) brand names.
For exemple, you put your key concept in the field (CAFE ? VIEW ?), and after you select which kind of positioning you want to have for your brand . For you, maybe TRENDY positioning can be OK or SOFT . Or try others. (there is 22 positionning in pro version)
The apps will generate semantic items added to key concept, wich express the positioning you choosed.
So it's provide you a list of ORIGINAL names, linked with your business et what is the positioning of it.
This apps is the same as used by the Brand Naming Agencies !

A cool name for 'fine coffee and exquisite desserts / treats' - with the local 'Tims' several miles away you should do very well. That should help especially in the winter when tourists are rare on the Fundy's North Shore. Your 'drive by' appearance, signage and view will draw most. Return visits will be built on your dessert menu, service, prices and convenience.

Be honest though. All 'come from away' visitors will be there for the local attractions, walking on the ocean floor at low tide, kayaking at high tide, bird and whale watching, hiking/camping/golfing in Fundy National Park ... they will know where they are already.
Repeating the name Hopewell or Fundy in your name won't be necessary.
Your regulars will know where they are also.

Be careful not to loose respect with a name that is too 'over the top' like happened in Saint John with the Reversing Falls for their diminutive tidal bore.

Historical influence could add some intrigue.
    Kape Café? -
https://www.lib.unb.ca/Texts/Maliseet/vocabulary/recent.html using aboriginal input in some dishes perhaps. Very delicate to be commercial and complimentary if you are on the 'outside'.

Tide and Time (TnT to the locals)
    Diurnal Café
Fissure View (Geology/fossils & Weir interest "Fisher")
Corophium Café.(Shrimp that draw the bird migration)
Planet Lovers (Plovers, again for the birds and Eco stuff)
    CrossRoads (Whales, Birds, Tourists, Explorers)
Power Views (Future Tidal Power Interest & great sights)
Finally, Terra Cotta Cliffs. (Locals might call it The Cliffs)
Speaks of the Colour of the sand and includes Flower Pot reference, view & story without being generic (sea foam, blah blah blah).

Nice to see neighbours using this site too! I'm in The Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia, just across from you.
A Herring Choker by birth. We have many of the same interests and issues.

    Good luck.
