Need Name For Small Catering Business

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I need a name for a small catering business that will cater from 2- 100 people. I will be using the best fresh ingredients and meats (nothing frozen). Will have foood already cooked and set it up when getting there. Will provide Appetizers, Salads, Entrees, Desserts, Beverages. I don't have a concise style yet because I cook a variety of foods such as Mexican, Italian, southwestern, mediterranean, and some korean food. I want something catchy, but not overated. I am a hispanic young woman, christian, and in love with food. Love cooking, baking, talking recipes, and trying new things. With that said I want something that describes me since I don't have a specific style.
Please help! and thank you.

    Dear blancaisafoodie,

Tell me, were you and I to sit down to discuss my needs for a three course dinner party for 40 people and you were to ask me what food I was interested in serving, what might your reaction be if I was to tell you I want food that's "catchy"?

Please, hear me out: I'm not trying to be a wise ass here, really I'm not. I respect and admire what you want to do and I really, REALLY want to help you.

But here's the thing: "catchy" is not a selling strategy. Nor, while we're on the subject, is hip, urban, retro, glitzy, edgy, cool, or any other variation thereof.

Do people eat catchy? Can you serve it, smell it, taste it, or savour it? No, alas you cannot. And the same applies to a name.

A catchy name will not sell your business. A catchy name won't sell ANY business! Why? Because people do not buy "catchy".

Over the last three weeks or so I've answered umpteen questions around the notion of a name that needs to be "catchy". I'm almost, ALMOST, a the point of contacting the site administrators to BEG them to screen and reject questions that ask for something "catchy".

Where, regionally or locally will you offer your catering business?
For the sake of argument, let's pick a city at random. How about Pittsburgh? Ever been there? Lovely place.

OK, now, if we were to draw a big circle around 'da burgh, how far out would you be willing to schlep all your gear, all your catering and serving equipment and your staff? Five miles? Ten? Fifteen? Twenty five?

That's your area. You already know what kinds of food you'll offer
(Mexican, Italian etc.,), and the sizes of the groups you'll cater to.

So rather than add the spin of a catchy name, if you already have a business and a list of clients, you're known for who you are and what you offer, NOT for the catchiness of your name. So why not EXTEND that?

Just tell people you're a caterer, and use your name, or the
type of food you offer, or something that's a lever, a hot point, something that touches a felt need, either for speed, service, great tastes, a certain touch, or something to do with your name.

If you can tell us more about your location and who your main customers are, this will help. But a catchy name won't sell your service. Please, give us more information and let's try and flesh things out a little more.

That is why I choose to get on this site to get the help from people like yourself. So thank you for your honesty. I am going to be catering in the Dallas are within 40-50 miles. I am known right now as Blanca's Kitchen since that is my name and I'm always in the kitchen cooking and baking. People that I have cooked for always refer me thru word of mouth because of how tasty my food is and great presentation. I cook for small parties like 2 people to 200. I have had great sucess with all my clients, and another thing they brag about is that I use fresh ingredients.
