Title For General Contractor?

What title would you give the owner of a general contracting company?

Owner? President? Principal? Contractor?

    I would say "Owner."

    It lets people know that they are dealing with the top person.

    To me, "President," especially at a small business, just sounds like someone is trying too hard to be an executive. Plus, if you don't have a corporation, "president" might not even be accurate.

    Dear Jessica,

    If this person sorts out the subcontractors, signs the checks, pays the taxes and brings in the work while holding everything together and being the boss, they're the owner.

    They're the organ grinder, not the monkey. And when customers want to know how much, or why something's late, or what's new, they want to speak to the organ grinder.

    Owner. Unless you are trying to create an image of a large company I would say people appreciate knowing the owner is involved.
