Help Me Name My Dog Business.

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I need to think of a catchy name to start a business with. I do dog grooming but also can do training and sitting. Might move to boarding but also want to be a vet in the long run and I want a dog business name that can handle the changes.

"Catchy" isn't usually a good naming approach. You're much better off communicating an important positioning benefit and leaving the catchy stuff to the amateurs.

You also have another problem: You're trying to come up with a "generic" name that can serve many different purposes, and that means the name won't be very impactful for any of your audiences. You'd be better served to figure out what you want to stand for NOW and be that. If/when you have a different target audience with different needs, you can come up with a name appropriate for that market.

Finally, do you have a marketing plan for your new business? How will people learn about you? Who EXACTLY is the target audience? How will you make money? How much will you need to invest? Etc. You really ought to deal with these issues before you worry about the name. If you have a good plan, the name often suggests itself.

If I had to target one area it would be grooming. That is what I'm doing now and the rest will come later. I do agree with you about being generic that is what I am trying to avoid. My name is Erika and I was going to use Erika's Dog Care, but I don't even like the direction of that. So grooming will be the area, and I'm mostly looking for a creative name that hasn't been used yet.
