Naming My Retail Kitchen/gift Store...help!

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I have 3 pages worth of words trying to convey the "feel" of what I want my store to be like. It is really driving me nutty.... Any suggestions for places to get more inspiration? I have looked at a thesaurus, freeditctionary, naming boards, advice from family and friends, etc... It is one of those things that I will know it when I hear it; I just haven't heard it yet! If anyone has ideas, I am all ears!

The setting will be along a river, with eagles, in a small town. I am a designer, and the store will be a small kitchen "boutique" showroom with some cabinet displays, (islands, hutch, etc). I will have bar stools, lighting, linens, bowls (some tableware), art & accessories, etc... All the things that you would decorate your kitchen with when you are done building or remodeling (or anytime).

Think Pottery Barn- the type of name and the feeling it conveys and the items they offer. I will not have small knickknacks, for example...

I don't want anything that has eagle, river, design, or kitchen in the name. I also don't want it to sound toooo kitcheny! I want it to feel homey (without using "home"). Words I have on my inspiration pages: gather, recipe, ingredient, roost, nest, element, detail, homestead, harvest, main, course, soup, fresh, embellish, dwell, plan, perspective, idea, abode, blend, perch, dish... Nest and Nesting Shoppes are stores in my area already.

I feel overwhelmed with this! I am concentrating on finishing my business plan right now, and I think I am spending too much time on this (but I want it perfect, of course!)

Thanks for your help and advice!

Sounds beautiful, just like a few towns I have some happy times at in CO and UT. If you are by a river and there are eagles, you must be in a natural and beautiful setting. Typically, the people that live in small towns nearby also value this type of environment, so I would go with something that fits this feeling:

    Consider:

    *** Nature's Creations

    *** Natural Living

    *** Natural Lifestyles

I think you're on the right track using your tag to further i.d. your store. How about something like Heart and Home, Complete home design services. Or, maybe we look for an architectural term that feels warm and cozy - which is what I would hope you're looking for. I've always felt the Arts and Crafts period with the wonderful attitude of "form follows function" concept. How about The Inglenook, or The Newel Post - with a tag that speaks to craftsmanship with a heart. (which isn't bad!). I'm also a big fan of the Not So Big House concept and know that quality over quantity can be a good emphasis as well. I stayed away from "Kitchen" - as "complete" pretty much says it all. I'll keep thinking. Good Luck!
