Need Help Naming My Home-based Recruiting Business

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am starting a home-based recruiting business and need some good names for it. I would prefer for it not to have words like recruiting, employment, or staffing in the name. Also, I was thinking of naming it The _________ Group or _________ Group. I would like for the name to be unique yet catchy without it necessarily stating the type of business it is. I originally wanted to use the first and middle names of my children (which are Payton Dakota and Dylan Gabrielle) to create the name of my company which still would be great if a name can be created from combining letters from each of their names. Thanks!

I'm not sure why you don't want the company name to include keywords....maybe make sure they are in the tag. The first name that comes to mind:

    The Paytelle Group

Thanks kimberly_mccabe and W.M.M.A. for your prompt replies. As far as not wanting the type of business it is in the name, I guess it's because recruiting being such a competitive industry, I would hate for a prospective client to think 'Oh no, another recruiting agency' when my information reaches them in whatever correspondence. I don't want to form a negative connotation so to speak. I would definitely make reference to the kind of business it is in the tagline of course, but just not in the name itself. Although I do like the name The Paytelle Group, I don't want clients to think that I am a payroll service (i.e., ADP).

    Thanks!

I think the nonsense name approach is a waste of time and effort. If you don't want to communicate anything in the name, then The Payton Group is fine, as would be almost any other name.

And if you're embarrassed about being a recruiter, changing the name of the business shouldn't give you much comfort. It reminds me of the old "hair color that nobody would notice" advertising. The problem was that the slogan was prophetic -- nobody noticed (the advertising or the hair color brand).

You need to reconsider your marketing plan -- maybe your business plan as well -- and decide what you want the name to do for you, what you want to communicate, and how you're going to create the right kind of awareness for what you do. Your target customers are the companies with open positions, right?

mgoodman, you make a valid point in the sense of wasting time on choosing a name. I ultimately would like to choose a name that reflects what I believe in (kind of like a mini mission statement in the name) without having to go back to the drawing board later. I never said I was embarrassed about being a recruiter, and I certainly want to be noticed. That said, this is definitely something that I'm going to do. And yes, my target customers will be the companies with open positions.

In response to PhilGrisola=Results's response, if you had read my first author response, then you would have seen that my reason for not using direct business related words is that I don't want to form a negative connotation. Also, I never asked for something "cutsie" (otherwise I could name my company Bella and be done with it), but catchy, yes. What new business owner wouldn't want a catchy name for themselves? Awareness is key to a new or existing business. Also, to be a home-based recruiter doesn't necessitate people to come to your home. I'm certainly not foolish! Just a suggestion, google home-based recruiting to understand its concepts and practices to get a better picture.

Thanks for all the responses! Keep them coming please. :0)

A quick twist to your requirement.

    The PayDay Group.

Without mentioning it has your industry hidden in it, it has your naming structure, and have your children's names!

I would like to say thank you to all the great responses I've received. Although I received some fantastic names, I think I'm going to go out on my own and choose something a little different than what was offered. Maybe in the near future I will be back on this board with a different dilemma and hope to have the same support from all the great members.

    Best regards,
    Lexi
