Tagline For Updated Newsletter

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I write an information management/technology focused newsletter for the school district. The audience consists of local schools, tech support, and district office staff. Technologically diverse.

Due to budget constraints etc. we are changing the look of the newsletter to two-color from full color and recycled paper from satin finish. I need a tagline to note our new 'green', environmentally aware look but still emphasize that our news remains current and fresh.

I came up with a few ideas:
Current News - Recycled Alternative
Green View for Current News
Earth Friendly Current News
Current & Green

However, I'm missing the mark and having trouble creating a compelling or catchy tagline. Thanks for any thoughts you can sling my way!

Thanks, Phil, for the response. We do electronically publish the newsletter on the school district intranet. However, hard copies are also required by our community.

The name of the newsletter is Connections which stays the same. I believe an appropriate tagline beneath the title will help readers understand the new look.

I also planned to use it to announce the change in the cover article.

Currently we use: Educate, Celebrate, Innovate as the newsletter tagline.

    Thanks,

(Aside: Will you be using soy inks to complete the "green" transformation? If not, you're "greenwashing".)

    CONNECTIONS: More Green. More Fresh.

    CONNECTIONS: Greener. Fresher.

    These are some great sugggestions!

Jay, I can't say about the inks. I'm using the district contracted printing vendor. Funds, as you can imagine, are tight.

Karen, I like your tagline...I'm not sure 'rejuvenate' will fly here. I'll have to think on a good substitute.

rjohnni, Thanks for your suggestions. Folks here are partial to 'current' so I'll think around integrating that w/ your 'greener, fresher' theme.

I think you should continue to use the current tagline. When you have to point out that you are greener than you used to be, you distract people from the real issues covered in your newsletter. You also raise the issues of whether you've gone far enough and whether you're just doing this to get people to think you're socially responsible (i.e., "greenwashing," to use Jay's term).

If it were my decision, I'd stick to the knitting and continue to serve the same master you've been serving. The "green" thing is a distraction, and it doesn't even apply to the online version of the newsletter!

Thanks for your thoughts, Mgoodman. The change will be substantial, so some sort of explanation ought to be forthcoming, I think.

I, also, like the current tagline and would prefer to keep it. I believe it better illustrates the newsletter's purpose and goals.

Perhaps a front page article explaining the changes w/ a snappy title will do the trick.

    thanks,
