Web/graphic Design Firm Seeks Character :)

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi folks,

My partner and I started a boutique web and graphic design firm last year and are struggling with our branding. Our name is Shea Media (www.sheamediaco.com), we market to other small businesses and start-ups, and our sales are primarily concentrated in websites, with some logo and print design as well. We're a full-service design studio, but since we're small, we've on top of our game--we pride ourselves on our commitment, efficiency, communication, personalized service, and excellent designs. Since most of our leads come from online marketing, we're really trying to generate interest enough to lead people to contact us via our contact form on the website.

So we need a tagline that speaks to who we are and what we're about. We're smart people, and a clever, witty tagline that sticks with you and keeps you thinking is what we're looking for. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Here are some words I've brainstormed around to get the ball rolling:

create
pixel
design
brand
brand-building
eye-popping
grow
business
techie
designer
web
succeed
code
boutique
friendly

Thanks for your consideration. :)

    Phil,

Thanks for your comments and for alerting me about the "View Portfolio" button not working in IE7. Good catch! We've made the fix so feel free to browse to get an idea of our audience.

I agree, content is king, and especially from a marketing perspective. But we specialize in design. We offer copywriting as an add-on, but our clients are responsible for generating content. This is because they're primarily super small businesses, startups, and sole proprietors who have already small budgets, and most prefer to maintain control over content. Because we specialize in design, our clients tend to be more graphically-based: artists, interior designers, retailers, that sort of thing. I would love to grow enough to have a copywriter on staff or freelancing, but our client's budgets just can't cover it at this point in time.

I'm with Phil - a tagline won't encourage people to suddenly want to contact you. Instead of telling on your home page who you are and what we do, tell me what you've done for others. What results you've achieved, a portfolio of great images, etc. Don't make the first contact to request a quote (since your prospect might not know exactly what they want/need). A free consultation to discuss 5 ways to improve their website, for example.

    Jay,

Thanks for the sound and specific advice. I'll take your words into consideration when looking at a revamp of our homepage this weekend.
