Need A "wow" Tagline & Name For Online Pearl Business

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
This is a clarification of a previous question that seemed to get a bit off target. I really need to focus on finding a great name and tagline for an online jewelry store that is primarily, but not exclusively, pearls. The store will be open in just over 4 weeks, so, I am anxious to find these 2 missing parts.

The online store will primarily target consumers. The jewelry is of the quality of lines like Mikimoto, Tiffany's or Bergdorf Goodmans, but, with more reasonable and accessible pricing. It's not, however, a discounter or online mall. The pearls are primarily salt water pearls such as Tahitian cultured pearls, and varieties of South Sea pearls.

I want to mention that it's really important that I find something that is modern and targets the younger set with money. Since pearls are often thought of as something our grandmothers might wear, it's really important that I find something that counteracts that idea and rings as youthful, elegant, trendy and sophisticated. Pearls and the rest of our jewelry are not just for bridal or for formal occasions. They are also CASUALLY elegant and add something special to every day wear. I'm hoping portray this FEELING of elegance, and modern sophistication, without being snobbish.

Although the business is mostly pearls, it also includes other fine jewelry and unexpected combinations that might fill out a person's jewelry wardrobe. This way, we can become the place to find different special pieces that they may wish to purchase over time.

Customers will be able to purchase securely online. In addition, we will offer the ability to purchase custom jewelry designs, and to customize various aspects of existing lines, such as the size and length of pearl strands, etc.

Our jewelry is set in set in precious metals, and accented by diamonds, and other precious and semi-precious gemstones.

What I need is a name that is available for registration, and, an associated tagline that will be memorable, along the lines of "a diamond is forever."

I'm really hoping to come up with something that says "WOW!!!"

TARGET A:
Traditional jewelry/pearl buyers who are more of the late 30's-40 somethings who are young enough to care about style and fashion, but, who don't like wasting their money and want quality. They have some experience purchasing online. They are likely to give a try with some smaller items first and later, something larger. For online shopping, they are probably purchasing at BlueNile.com and similar web stores. They appreciate service and want value for their dollar. They look at things that will last and that will fit into their more successful lifestyles. They usually have lifestyles that are not conducive to looking around and getting the best prices, but, they appreciate a bargain.

TARGET B:
Late 20-somethings to mid 30's who have begun successful careers, still have a bit of frivolous cash to spend, are less inclined to be saving for their kids college and have a tendency to impulse buy and purchase an "image". They look at style.com and other trend magazines and try to emulate what they see as the "celebrity look", or, their perception of the "look of success". They are the group who has grown up shopping on the internet, so, it is easier to make them comfortable in that setting. I'm not sure, but, I believe that this is the group most influenced by seeing an item being worn by types like Julia Roberts, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and whoever else the latest celebrity is. They are currently shopping the trendy stores like those on Melrose Blvd, if they live in Los Angeles, or, if not, they would tend to buy online from places that they believe are supplying them with the "look" that is implied by those places and that of other "trendy" cities. Those with money would probably buy designer names, and those with less, still buy, but, they just look for ways to stretch their dollars a bit more and get the "look for less." "Not your grandmothers pearls" would be an important thing to keep in mind for them. They live the designer jeans lifestyle, sexy looking, "hot" looks, retro-influenced styles reminiscent of the mod 70's, (ie. pearl drop earrings on gold chain, spray chokers, pearl lariats, etc) that are less expensive, very stylish and young, perfect with jeans, and seldom the traditional white pearl - think chandelier earrings to wear out to a nightclub for a night of dancing with your friends, worn by the modern Twiggy.)
They tend to buy more on LOOK and impulse rather than saying, "hey today I'm going jewelry shopping."

I know that this is a lot of info, but, I'm running out of time and I really need to find the perfect name. I tried with the earlier post, but, it kind of headed in another direction. I hope you can help me. Again, I really need a WOW tagline and name that is available for registration. Thank you in advance.

I looked back at your prior post just to be sure I understood the criteria for "Wow!" I'm not sure I do.

Jay Hamilton-Roth suggested the following, all of which he says are available as domain names:

    PearlEssentials.com
    SayPearls.com
    23Pearls.com
    247Pearls.com

Can you tell us why these are not sufficiently "Wow!" and what criteria you're using to get to "Wow!" ?

I kind of feel like we're chasing something that doesn't really exist. "Wow!" isn't a helpful adjective for this exercise. You want something that says, "MyPearlSource.com" (which is also available) but then it is probably too descriptive and not "Wow!" enough.

And while the description of your target audience is GREAT (one of the best we've had), there's no way we can communicate everything in your narrative in a name.

You might be best served to stop looking for "Wow!" and take something that will get your target audience to your site, where the copy and graphics can provide the positioning and "Wow!" you want.

    Regarding tagline suggestions:

    Look Opulent For Less
    Show Your Inner Glow

    Other domain suggestions:
    Pearling.com (domain for sale)
    LookIridescent.com

(Aside: "A diamond is forever" cost a lot of money to explain the marketing message. Of course, De Beers could afford the expense.)

    Phil speaks some truth here!

'TV shopping' may work to help compliment your shop.

Pearl Power (soft connection with GirlPower mindset)
    Tagline:
The Mother Of All Pearl Jewelers

SWAG/gifts for your target models is still done I believe.
    target awards/highprofile/red carpet types.

    Goodluck.
