Spa And Salon Name

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hi! I will be opening a Spa and Salon soon with a partner. We need a name. My partner is suggesting "GILAME"or "GILAMEI". I don't like it. I think it sounds like chinese food (Chicken lomein),. I am suggesting that we need to come up with a name easy to pronounce , a name that will attract the client and something that feels comfortable to the client. A name that will not intimidate the client. I need your opinion. Please help.

    What type of spa?
    What type of clientele?
    Located where?
    Specializing in what services?
    Better than your competition..how?

A generic name won't serve you. Please share the details of your business plans with us.

Jay is asking the right questions. Suggest you get us started on your naming project by providing more information on your target audience. Where do they live? What important benefit will you provide that they can't get elsewhere? Etc.

Have you interviewed a dozen prospective customers to see what THEY have to say? What would make them sit up and notice a new spa in town? What would it take to get them to try it?

And, FWIW, I'm with Phil when it comes to the name your partner likes. "Gilame" doesn't tell me anything about the place. I'm not even sure what it means or how to pronounce it, let alone why I might want to learn more or what benefit there might be to stopping in. It could be a gambling club or a scrap metal business for all I know.

Well, whatever you do with your spa name, your instincts are already right on track! Make sure it is...

    ...easy to SPELL
    ...easy to REMEMBER
    ...obvious to PRONOUNCE
    ...as SHORT as possible
...indicative of what you DO there
...available as a www.____.com domain name.

If I'm brainstorming a name or tagline or whatever, by myself (which isn't officially brainstorming!) or with other people, I find it useful to put one word at a time on a sticky note or an index card. Just put them all over the wall or on the table, as many as possible, without over-thinking every idea. You might be surprised what emerges.
