Need Help Naming Business

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
My husband & I are going to start cooking & selling food at festivals. We will be selling barbecue sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage dogs, & boiled peanuts. We live in Ga. His name starts with a D & mine starts with an A. Our last name starts with an H. We will be cooking the barbecue in our back yard pit, with oak wood. We eventually want to cater parties, also. He is thinking about Southern Barbecue & Catering. However, I'm not sure if that's "catchy" enough.

Thank you for the response! I guess it wasn't too hard to figure out our last name by my screen name. Anyway, all very good ideas. I will show these to him later!

    Thank you,

    Alecia

In regards to doing business at festivals, where there are lines of tents, names seem less important than a sign that says what you are selling.

A customer gets to the food area and then selects what food sounds interesting. Being able to easily tel what food is being sold at a tent is of primary importance. Pictures, descriptions, etc. could be useful in helping this. As can having the smell of the food being cooked wafting out towards the customer.

On the catering side, the name becomes more important. You need people to remember who you are based on the name, not make that on the spot decision they would at a festival.

Given this split, I would choose a name that says what you are for the festivals, but also helps brand you for the catering business. "Southern Barbecue & Catering" could do this, but likely is taken already (lots of hits in Google). So how about "D&A Southern Barbecue & Catering"?

At the festivals, make sure you have business cards/fliers available that talk about your catering business. These festivals are prime locations for leads towards the catering side of your business.

Thanks, Peter! We have been to lots of festivals, just to get ideas, and not many people have their business name posted. However, I have found that in order to get accepted into most festivals, you have to have so many permits, that you have to have some type of business name.
The idea of having business cards & flyers handy to give out at the festivals is a GREAT idea! I hadn't thought about that, but it's definitely a way to get our name out there!
I like Southern Barbecue & Catering, but as you stated there are alot out there. I really want something "catchy", but can't come up with anything!
