Name For A Contemporary Clothing Boutique

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hello! I am in the process of opening a boutique and have decided on everything except for a name! It will be a contemporary women's clothing boutique targeting ages 18-35 with price points varying from $20-$250. As far as decor think Anthropologie. I am looking for a very unique one word name. I have brainstormed like crazy and somehow just cannot come up with "the" name. Some existing examples I love are: Anthropologie, Theory, Dash, Solo. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions! I am down to the last wire and must decide this week! Thank you so much!

All the names you love the companies spent a lot of $ conveying what the name "means". Unless you likewise have a large marketing budget to explain the branding intent, keep your name obvious for your target market, for example: Ashley Knows Clothes or Beautiful Boutique.

You really tie your hands behind your back when you limit the options to one word. What if the perfect name has two words, or three?

The right way to do this is to take the gun away from your head and think about what you're trying to communicate in the name, what words your target audience uses to describe the benefit they seek (in contemporary clothing), etc.

Since this is a bricks-and-mortar business, maybe some reference to your location would make sense, or to a familiar landmark. So many directions to go.

The real way to do this, of course, is to listen to your target audience as they discuss their own decision-making processes when it comes to clothing purchases. Every other approach is a distant second choice. When you force a quick decision, you all but guarantee you'll end up with a name that is sub-optimal, and you'll be back here in a few months asking for ideas on how to save a less-than-great name.

It's hard to narrow names down to one word without knowing more about you and the store. I'm in your target demographic- 29 y/o female- and honestly I think that "Ashley Adams Boutique" or simply "Ashley Adams" would be great names for your store. Your name is catchy on its own, so why not work with it? It has a trendy and upscale ring to it and paired with the right marketing, I think it would definitely attract the customers you are looking for. "Ashley Adams: Contemporary, Captivating, Chic." I'd shop there! :)

I have a ladies boutique...upscale and an older customer base. I have to agree, it's nice to use your name someway...it gives your store such a personal touch. If you are looking for a one word name...why not just use "Ashley"?
Depending on what area you are in, using the name of a flower is also good.."Magnolia"...especially in the south. We southern gals, love anything with southern flare.
You sure don't want it to sound too trendy...retail is very difficult right now. You can't afford to get this wrong. Blessings to you!

dixichic - thank you for your response! I orginally thought about using my name but ironically there is a gift shop named Ashley's close to the shopping center I will be in. I LOVE the tagline though! Contemporary, Captivating, Chic. Sounds fabulous. Thank you so much. I know I have received a few negative responses concerning the one name decision but I really like the idea and want to keep it simple. I have had very positive feedback from the one name thing from my target market so that is what matters most. To give you an idea about the image I am trying to create think Antique Glam if you will. This style evokes luxurious surroundings with a hollywood regency vibe. Think an eclectic mix of vintage furniture with simple modern lines. I want to create an ambiance that is personal and creative, something that draws you in. I want my customers to relate the store name to what they will find inside. I am very outgoing and personable, love to laugh and just enjoy the small things in life. I hope this brief description may inspire some more creativity!

paticake - great response also! As you can see from my above post Ashley's is already taken. I appreciate the idea though! I am actually from the south so I can definitely relate to loving southern flare! Thank you for the encouragement! Especially from someone who is in the business.

Thank you both so much for your time and ideas. They are greatly appreciated! I never thought choosing a name would be this hard. Have a wonderful day!

You're so welcome! I love being able to exercise my creative side! :) Ok so the first word that comes to mind is Charisma...I know I'm on a "C" kick but the alliteration would tie it in nicely with your tagline and helps make it memorable. And I think "Charisma" perfectly captures the essence you're looking for- the charm, glamour, and allure of the store as well as your outgoing personality.
