Random Two Word Catchy Names

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
I am working on two retail ventures one involved with home ware while the other dealing with health and beauty products.

I am interested in coming up with random two word catchy phrase for the name. The phrase doesnt need to be connected to the retail outlet/product. It has to be pleasant sounding, catchy and memorable.

For instance consider River Island, Blue Ocean, Paradise Road, Crate & Barrel, Crabtree & Evelyn (Although Evelyn is named after a person), Monsoon Rain. Beauty of such names is you usually position yourself away from the rest of the market, and these can apply for any business as long as the rest of the branding is coherent.

Any tips on how i can come up with such phrases? Is there any phrase database which i can use? Any links would be appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,

Jeesh

    Dear Jeesh,

    Several things:

River Island, Blue Ocean, Paradise Road, Crate & Barrel, Crabtree & Evelyn, and Monsoon Rain are NOT random.

Batch Niagara, Keyboard Giraffe, and Tripod Carpet are random.

But beware. In marketing, Catchy is NOT a Selling Strategy™

Tips on coming up with the phrases you're looking for? Flip through a dictionary and pick a page at random, then stick a dart in a random word.

But a few words of warning: see how far this "strategy" gets you.

The marketplace you're entering is CROWDED with suppliers.
This means that unless your goods are unlike any other in either category in design, features, functions, styling, pricing, approach, scope, branding, marketing, and overall value you'll have a great deal of work to do in order to create visibility, share of mind, and market share. I'm not saying you'll fail: it CAN be done. You'll need to KNOW you can do it.

Search Google for the search term "random word generator".

    I hope this helps.

Gary is right. Random two-word phrases is a terrible way to name a business. How about "Stupid Businessperson" for a name? Those are a couple of random words.

My suggestion: Figure out who your target audience is and what unique and important benefit you provide for them. Then name your business something that communicates that benefit.
