Can you be a little more specific? Who is the target audience? (There are a lot of people and businesses in China.) What kind of brand ... consumer, B2B, service or product, new category, imported or local, etc.? Is the brand new, or is it just new in China?

Why e-commerce instead of traditional? Why not both?

Thanks for your reply mgoodman. The brand is functional outdoor clothings (waterproof, breathable & windproof etc) and it Est 2006 in UK.
And now we want to develop classical wear like polo shirt,t-shirt, short, jeans etc.. To get in china market. We target B2C market.
And we have very lower budget, want start from e-commerce first.
    Please kindly to give advise

If you have something that can be 'protected' in China; suggest one of two options...
Find a Chinese partner. or better, same concept via Taiwan (it will offer a little more protection)

    My advise.

Don't waste your time unless you have already established a major brand name in international markets.

You cannot build from scratch a brand name in China. You can sell branded items that already have established brand value oin other markets.

However, be warned. If you want to do e-commerce in China, you have to establish the company IN china. You have to use a local payment solution and all money has to go into a Chinese bank account.

The problem is, after everything, you cannot get the money OUT of China :)) You will pay a lot of taxes to re patriate the funds and of course a lot of 'Special' permits that you have to get so by the time you re patriate the funds, your margin has gone :))

You servers have to be IN China and everything has to be maintained there.

Why not focus on other Asian markets first, Taiwan, Sinagpoare, Vietnam, malaysia, Indonesia, THailand etc.

    Good luck.
