Branding A New School Of Music In Central Illinois

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I am a Music director of a church and I am in the process of relocating, and re-branding my school of music. I teach private lessons for guitar, piano, bass, and drums. I will focus on beginner through intermediate lessons, music theory, and teach through popular music & if the case permits, worship music. I am interested in teaching students 8 years old through adult. I have asked a few friends, and one suggested calling it (city name) School of Rock. My concern there is that it may alienate some of my target audience, especially those who are looking for a piano instructor. I've considered "Combs School of Music," and "(city name) School of Music." Any help that could be given would be great.

Regards,
Elgin

I would also like to add that my styles of music are rock-based, electric guitar driven. I am a contemporary/modern worship leader. My music library consists of stuff from The Beatles to U2 to Coldplay to Mutemath. Just fyi.

The problem you're no doubt struggling with is who is your ideal student: a beginning youth interested in drumming to rock music? An intermediate teen interested in studying bass guitar? An adult interested in playing classical piano?

"School of Music" sounds like you're teaching group classes, not private. Ditto "School of Rock". Given the range of music/ages/instruments consider a name such as: "(City Name) Private Music Camp" or "Generations: Private Music Instruction".

    Thanks for the response.

I will be giving both private and group lessons. (Group lessons will be for guitar only.) I see what you're saying. One of my friends suggested using the word "studio" instead of school. Combs Music Studio - but that seems almost like a recording studio.

You're right though. I'm struggling with my ideal student. I can teach contemporary, classical, rock, country..etc. But I want to attract the kind of people who are dedicated. I'm not looking for someone who thinks "Maybe it will be a fun idea, but I really don't have time to practice." That's why I've been gravitating toward using "school".

Someone else also suggested "Academy," but I feel like that seems geared toward little kids.
