Effective Tag-line For A Performing Arts Centre

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Our performing arts centre is located in a beautiful historic gothic looking building which for potential new audiences to performing arts can be off-putting. Want to start a campaign to promote the centre - The Capital - as a place people think of to check out when they are looking for entertainment. Want to appear open and accessible, at the same time keep current subscribers and patrons happy (they like the building). We have broad range of performances, some our own entrepreneured shows (Theatre Season, Soul Food - fine music, First Stages - children, Morning Music - oldies, Engine Room - comtemporary/edgy) as well as productions that use us as a hall for hire, so international comedy, music, local performances. We are everything to everyone. Still not top of mind when looking for something to do. Want to encourage people to go to live performance, feel comfortable and at home, some ownership - we are a town of 100,000 so still quite rural in many respects.

If ever a venue marketing question smacked of testimonal advertising/publicity opportunities, this is it. A series of small, easily and highly identifiable design, consistent placement ads (or direct mail/email) telling how patrons of various demographic groups (age, gender, couples, singles, groups, executives, housewives, students/college kids, families, etc) telling how they've enjoyed the location, different programs, etc. could be beneficial here.

Getting info about upcoming events/programs to the local media well in advance can be a start for good publicity, too. Consider having different characters (in performance dress--paid for their time, of course--a marketing/advertising expense) once a month or so gather in front of the building with signs/posters, etc. announcing what's coming up (and invite local TV, radio, press to check it out, too) waving to passers/drivers-by (considering the building is on a well-traveled road) as a goodwill, welcoming gesture.

You could really have fun with this one, good luck!

a.henshall--Sorry, got kinda carried away with the marketing aspect...'clubs' are a great idea and will garner even more publicity opps. As for a possible tag line, how about

    (Town)'s Happening Place or
    (Venue name) --A Happening Place
    or Arts n' Entertainment

    Best,
