Urgent Requirement For A Crisp N Catchy Name

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
I plan to start an event company that specialises in doing Creative Sporting Events. This company will organise Soccer and Cricket tournaments where Corporates and Colleges from different areas will compete with each other.
We plan to create a NICHE by only doing sporting events. We plan to start by cricket n soccer n then go to other sports.

I require a Fresh name that attracts attention and is very Corporate as well.Since, we would attract a lot of corporates n brands, the name should do the job.

Waiting for creative cells to help me out with this

    Dear Ricky,

One of the biggest myths in sales and marketing is that all one needs in order to bring customers running to any given door, or website, or service delivery point is a catchy name.

I have no idea where this belief came from, but it's time for it to die the slow, horrible death is deserves.

In order to connect your proposed service with the desired outcome you're offering you need to first of all define the identity of your ideal customer, why they ought to care about your service, and to pinpoint the single most important benefit FOR THEM as to why they ought to do business with you and not with someone else. So, is there a MARKET for this kind of offering?

If there is, GREAT! But before you get too excited about a name, figure out the profit potential for the markets you plan to tap. I'm urging you to do this because without dedicated buyers you'll have no revenue streams.

To do this you might want to first figure out
which specific individuals WITHIN the college and corporate world make up your target audience.

One of the things you mentioned was "I require a Fresh name that attracts attention and is very Corporate as well."

What EXACTLY is a "fresh" name?

If one of your targets is the college environment, why must your name be "very corporate"?

If you plan on creating a niche by only doing sporting events (for cricket or soccer events), your niche will stop being a niche if and when go into other sports. In the first instance, rather than trying to do cricket AND soccer, do just one and get really good at everything to do with that one sport and THEN branch out from there.

And how will your planned event company create its revenue streams? Sponsorships? Advertising? On a fee per match basis? On a league basis? And if it's competition-based and you offer sponsors a certain amount of visibility, how will you DELIVER that visibility in terms of eyeballs, backsides on seats, or by bodies through the turnstiles?

Figure all this out and the name becomes secondary.
Figure all this out and the name can be the sponsor's name (if you plan on attracting a sponsor), giving you a name along the lines of "The ABC Company International Cricket League Trophy".

That's the other thing: every top class sporting event of this nature offers some form of competitive edge or recognition, some THING (trophy, award, recognition, prize, whatever) for teams to win. Without a goal, without an end in sight or some kind of prize there is little to aspire to.

So, a few things to consider. I hope they help.

    Hi Gary,
Well your key insights on my query would serve as a helping hand. Thanks for all the knowledge.Let me answer your questions one by one :

    1. By saying a FRESH NAME, i mean which is not on the same lines of what people have... Indian Premier League or Sports Unlimited. I need a name that is new and unheard of.This would make me stand out in terms of recall and also something that people will talk about.

    2. The reason the name has to be VERY CORPORATE is that college students will relate to things as they will then jump to the corporate ladder. Also, a corporate name will help me getting better sponsors and again attracting Corporates ofcourse.A name dedicated to college students would dilute the overall impact.

    3. By creating a NICHE, I mean a company that does only sports events.Out here, Event Management Companies do everything under the roof...Be it Weddings, Parties, Corporate Meets etc.I want to create a NICHE by creating sporting events only.

    4. Cricket cannot be played during rains and we experience rains for atleast 5 months. So, during this time, SOCCER will help us to connect with people.

    5. We plan to make these events a platform for BRANDS and INDIVIDUALS for their Sales and Marketing acitivites. So, sponsorship and other barter deals are definitely on the cards.

    6. Teams winning will not only get Trophies but other freebies on individual performances like gift coupons, prizes etc.

Please let me know if i am on the right track with my plans.

    Thanks and Regards
