Need New Company Name!

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Our company is currently named MyPrint as commercial printing was its core competency. However, its transitioning to a marketing execution solutions company utilizing eTools, a web based marketing portal. Customers, (target audience is CMO's and Marketing Directors of restaurant franchises like iHOP, Panda Express, Chioptle, Red Robin etc), have their franchisee users throughout the U.S. enter marketing assets they need such as POP signage, menus, marketing collateral etc and MyPrint outsources the printing and distribution of those functions but manages the supply chain logistics of it. In addition to printing and distribution utilizing a network of third party printers, the marketing execution solutions will eventually include adding mobile marketing, social media marketing, email marketing and more to the eTools marketing web portal. We’re not looking to become a creative, marketing agency, rather, we’re simply looking to augment our current offering by partnering with other companies to leverage their technologies. That said, we’d like to change our company name to one that is better reflective of our soon-to-be new offering. Thanks!

You're really re-positioning the company in a major way, and the name you select will be a critical component of the re-positioning and re-branding effort.

If you are already known by this target audience, and if the MyPrint brand means something to them, I'd be careful about abandoning your heritage too quickly.

In fact, the best way to get into this process is to talk with a small sampling of your [new] target audience. Find out how they perceive you, what they like and what they don't like, what's on their wish lists, who they see as your competition, etc. If you do this well, they'll tell you the naming approach that will resonate best with them.

You may even want a professional market researcher to take on this project, because often an interview subject will be more candid with an outsider than with someone from the company. (They have a tendency to tell you what they think you want to hear if they believe you have an axe to grind.)

This is an important move. Don't blow it by trying to do it all yourself.

I agree - MyPrint is a great name for many things. It is one of those URLs that some dot com would probably love to get a hold of, if you decide not to use the name yourself.

But if you have used it for a while, it still should have a bit of value to your company. I personally wouldn't be so quick to dump MyPrint as a name.

Funny, I just used this link in a different response: https://www.igorinternational.com/process/igor-naming-guide.pdf

One of the most useful tools around naming I've found (and no, I don't work for Igor)
