Need Company Name For A Beauty Industry Product

Posted by ann on 500 Points
Our product is a new type of hair extensions focusing on providing volume. This product will also have a wonderful niche for clients who have very thin hair and/or bald spots providing them with thick beautiful hair. The hair is available in real human hair and also a new type of hair that incorporates both real and synthetic. We want this product to be an experience, not just going to the salon and having extensions put in. This is the Mercedes of hair. There is no other system out there like this. This is new.

We can't use the name Transformation(s). We want the name to be unique, preferably one word (two is okay), something that's unforgettable. Classy. We want our clients to feel special and provide them with a product and experience that will (to use the word that we can't use) transform their lives. Hair is VERY important to women. There is nothing worse than a bad hair day. If your hair looks good, everything else seems to fall into place. Hope this helps inspire someone. Good luck!

Have you done any qualitative research with your prime target audience? That's the place we need to start.

We need to understand their emotional connection to their hair, their attitudes toward extensions generally, the words they use to discuss their needs, and how they think their lives would be different if they could "scratch that itch" with the perfect product/solution.

If we try to name your company -- an important marketing step, to be sure -- without understanding the end-user/consumer, we'll almost certainly be doing you a disservice.

Let's begin with the consumer and take it from there. This is not a decision you should take lightly. It will form the basis for consumer perceptions of your company ... and ultimately your marketplace image.

Don't forget, too, that your distribution channel will need to be part of the marketing mix discussion, and they'll need to be able to buy into your positioning and your name. The people in the salon are very powerful gatekeepers, so the whole marketing strategy needs to have them in the loop.

You may want to consider outside professional help for this if it's a serious project. Marketing will be the key to success; don't treat it like a step-child.

You're right. That's a very important part of the process. Our marketing department has been out traveling around the country interviewing stylists, salon owners and customers. They've been having focus groups also.

Our CEO has had extensive experience in a previous start-up company in this industry that was very successful and eventually sold to a major industry leader. She knows the industry inside/out and has top connections.

    Does this help?

Who is the name trying to appeal to: the stylists or the stylists' clients?

How about: "Mane Effect"? It's not being used by other hair salons nor other hair extension products and conveys the benefit you're looking for.

We're looking for something that is high end. It doesn't even have to have a word in it that means hair. The word can be how you'll feel once it's on.

Also, the name has to appeal to both the stylist and the stylist's client, as they will both be using hearing the name. The stylist will be explaining the experience to the client.

So, what words are the clients using to describe how it feels once it's on?

    Ann,

Your stated positioning statement is "Mercedes of hair". As you probably know Mercedes is from a daughter, Mercédès Jellinek.

Many of the high end products of named after people, predominantly european people, e.g. dior gucci armani lauder versace and so on.

So how about "Elisabeth" for think hair.

    Steve

    Hi everyone,

Great ideas so far, but just not there yet. Does anyone have any other ideas?

How will you know when its "there?" What are the criteria?

Why are the suggestions so far not good? If you can give us better direction and specific comments, we'll be better able to give you what you want.
