Craig, seems a little broad for tagline purposes, do you specialize in any way?

A few questions the answers to which will help us help you:

    1. Why do you feel a need for a tagline? Is it because your business name doesn't tell what you do or what benefit you provide for your target audience? (What IS the name of your business?)

    2. What do you expect a tagline to do for you? What do you want the tagline to communicate?

    3. It's not clear what the networking groups have to do with a tagline for your business. Can you help us understand the objective?

    4. Finally, how will you know when the right tagline shows up? What criteria will you be using to judge our suggested taglines? If we know that there's a much better chance we'll be able to help you.

Craig, let's say I met you at a networking event. If I ask you what you do, and you respond "I do Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy for the Spine and Extremities for musculoskeletal disorders" it's likely people will be glassy-eyed.

Start with who your best patients are. How old? What problems do they have?

Next, describe how do you help them better than other practitioners. Are you faster, gentler, pain-free, guaranteed, open 24 hours a day, etc.?

Finally, why should people entrust their body with you? What story can you share that describes your typical client relationship (before, during, and after)?

This probably seems like a lot of work for "simple" tagline, but the process of helping you is similar to your process with clients - asking questions, listening, and creating a dialogue based on your skills & intuition.

Craig, your most recent response suggests you don't have answers to the tough questions. We're not asking about what you DO. The tagline is about the most important BENEFIT for your target audience. Tell us about them, and about why they should choose you instead of another physical therapist.

I agree with Jay that your description of what you do sounds like a lot of jargon and/or obfuscation to someone who isn't deeply involved in your field. It's likely to be off-putting to "normal folks."

Thank everyone. After careful thinking I am not sure a tagline is the best way to approach this. I have been away for a few days and I see your points which are great. I thin I have a good handle on this. If you can comment that would be great.

    1) My best patients are aged 12-90 years old
    2) THey have a musculoskeletal injury non surgical or surgical
    3) THe problems that they suffer from are lower back pain, knee pain ( Acl tear, torn meniscus, total joint replacement) and shoulder injuries (rotator cuff tears, adhesive capsulitis)
    4) What our clinic specializes in is mechanical diagnosis and therapy, (MDT). What this means is that we figure out what the problem is mechanically, advise you what the problem is, tailor your program based on your symptomatic and mechanical responses to the problem you are having. IE degenerative joint disease of your lumbar spine, you have difficulty with sitting, lying, bending, and feel better with walking and standing. After an repeated movement examination we find that you have directional preference of extension exercises and send you home with this because it made you better in the clinic. What this means is less time in therapy for you. Traditional therapy clinics focus on the symptoms and not the problem Ie ( Degenerative joint disease of the low back and they treat this with a protocol, they will not look into what the symptoms are , what responses are there to sitting, standing, bending, walking all things we do every day) A general exercise program for this diagnosis is then used and some get better and some do not.

    5) Story of an MD who came to see me recently who had been to 5 other clinics without success. He had every test done and he simply needed to one form of exercise frequently. After 10 visits he is discharged and doing well and has knowledge on what to do, and why to do it and understands that if he continues it, the research clearly shows that he will have a favorable outcome.

    Craig
