Name/tagline Needed For Animal Rescue Group

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
we are a newly formed dog rescue and transportation group. We coordinate rescue for dogs from the central Valley of CA to SF bay area, WA, OR, LA and beyond.
We are a volunteer organization. we want people to "spot" us on Facebook and other our website so we need a name that encompasses all we do.
we have a domain name of "TransPETation" so that needs to be in the name, we also want to say something about the rescue coordination in the name (we aren't a rescue, we coordinate with shelters and rescues to get the dogs to safety)
We also need a really catchy tagline)

You're trying to say too much in a name/tagline. Save all the explanations and the "fine print" for your landing page (or beyond). The goal of the name should be to attract interest and generate awareness.

You probably need to start by defining your objective for all of this. WHY do you want people to "spot" you? WHO do you want to "spot" you?

Once they've "spotted" you, what do you want them to do/think? What's the benefit to your organization for people to "spot" you? Are you looking for donations? Do you want people to adopt a pet? Do you want them to write to their legislators?

If the objective and success metrics are clear, then you can figure out how to move people from unaware, to aware, to supportive, to action. And the name/tagline can be part of that marketing effort.

If you don't have an objective, then it really doesn't much matter what the name is, does it? (Call the organization FIDO and make up words that start with those letters.)

In the words of Yogi Berra: "If you don't know where you're going, you'll end up someplace else."

Our goal and mission is a simple one! Get animals rescued from the Central Valley of CA and get them transported to those rescues. I think I mentioned that in my post. The "catch" or "spot" as you call it is the "TransPETation" that we want to use. We need a name that also incorporates the rescue coordination part as TransPETation is not all we do.
We want RESCUES to spot us. We want RESCUES all up and down the west coast to Spot us. Benefit to them is that we take the legwork out of rescue..we coordinate with the shelters on behalf of the rescues and transport (a BIG part of rescue).

We do need to include the rescue coordination piece...
Our current "working" name is CA dog rescue and transPETation...
    We need something more concise

I''m sorry...no one is getting it exactly...
we do dog rescue coordination AND Transpetation....we coordinate the rescue of the dog AND transport the dogs...it isn''t that Transpetation is rescue coordination ...they go hand in hand...we do BOTH!

With all due respect, I think YOU may not be getting it exactly.

You're trying to say too much in a name/tagline.

The reason we're having trouble getting your thoughts into a name/tagline is because it requires more words than a good name and tagline should have. And we have learned that compromising communication effectiveness in order to cram in all those extra thoughts just undermines the quality of the result.

If you need help with the strategy (as well as the name/tagline), there are several of us on this forum who can help you. Just post a project in the "Hire an Expert" section of this website, or browse through the list of top experts and see if any of the bios in their profiles look like a good match for the task.

You're trying to communicate two different services with one name/tagline, and that's almost always a recipe for failure. If your butcher happened to be a good dress designer, would you try to find a single name/tagline for the business that covered both? Of course, not. In a less absurd way, that's what you're trying to do.

I''m sorry, I do not see it the way you do....perhaps it''s hard to understand what we do...
It is NOT 2 services...it is an entire SUITE of services that gets a dog from point a to point b (safety)
Before you chastise someone for what they are trying to do, perhaps learn more about what rescue encompasses
thank you but this forum has been no help at all
