Plus Size Consignment Store....

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am working on opening a Plus Size Consignment store (for women) and I'm absolutely drawing a blank when it comes to a name or a tag line. I'd like it to sound somewhat upscale but still with a fun name. I've been so impressed with some of the ideas I've read on this site so I'm very much looking forward to what you can help me come up with! Thank you in advance!

Other than the fact that your customers are plus size, what else do you know about them? What draws them to a consignment store? What concerns do they have? What are their attitudes toward shopping at a consignment store?

And what else do you know about these prospective customers? Where are they buying their clothes now? Where do they live? Do they buy online, or do they prefer bricks-and-mortar stores? What words do they use when they talk about buying clothes? What benefits do they seek? What are their most important unmet needs?

The more you can tell us about your target audience and what's going on in their heads (i.e., their self-talk), the better able we will be to come up with a great name for your new store.

Although I come from the largest city in South Dakota, we do not have many choices for plus sized clothing, period. As far as purchasing new, we only have Lane Bryant, Katherine's and Cato. The Torrid we have right now is closing in a month. The options for used plus sized clothes is limited to a few racks at 7 or 8 other consignment stores in town that primarily focus on smaller sizes. Although buying online is certainly popular, I think people here still prefer to try on their clothes before making the purchase.

I expect my target customer base to be made up of mostly middle class women who are too busy to search through 6 consignments shops to find a few articles of clothing that fit them.

I do hope to offer everything from sports wear to business attire. I want my customers to know the clothes they find at my store will be clean, well taken care of, yet affordable.

Once the shop is up and running I do plan to have a monthly calendar with featured events throughout the month, as well as "private runway parties" where host can earn her own clothing free based on the sales of her "guests".

Most of all, I want to stand out. I want to have people say "Have you ever shopped at _______, it's so cool!"

When you have a long list of candidates, how are you going to decide on which to use? What criteria will you use to pick a winner?

If you can share your thinking process and the most important criteria in your mind for picking the name, it will help us come up with more candidates. And it will save us from directing our energy to approaches that are not likely to be useful.

I am looking for something that speaks to what kind of store it is, without screaming "plus size". I intend for the space to be fairly modern yet fun. I am not looking for generic names like A plus consignment or something that could be condescending like "Plump and Precious". Yes, someone suggested that to me...that's why I'm here!
